Sat 24th September Liverpool v Wolves k.o. 3pm
Liverpool 2 (Johnson-og 11, Suarez 38) Wolves 1 (Fletcher 49)
Who needs enemies when Friend's the ref?
Brave Wolves pushed Liverpool to the limit but they left Anfield as losers. After conceding two in the opening half, the Molineux men dominated possession in the second period but only had a goal from substitute Steven Fletcher to show for their efforts. Mick McCarthy made two changes from the team that started against Queens Park Rangers with Dave Edwards and Stephen Hunt replacing George Elokobi and Michael Kightly. Wolves kicked-off attacking the Kop end and in the first minute Charlie Adam fouled Jamie O'Hara to the left of the home area. O'Hara took the free-kick himself but the ball was headed clear. Then Lucas tripped Hunt some 25-yards out and this time O'Hara's free-kick bounced back off the wall and the midfielder picked up an early yellow card for a high challenge on Andy Carroll as they challenged for the loose ball. Wolves had made a bright start to the game and O'Hara figured again with a shot that was saved by Pepe Reina after Kevin Doyle had pulled the ball back. Liverpool responded with two Adam corners - the second of which was punched clear by Wayne Hennessey. But the danger wasn't cleared and the home side moved into a somewhat fortuitous 11th minute lead. Carroll appeared to push Roger Johnson as they went for a cross and when the ball fell to Adam he hit a 20-yard drive that Johnson deflected into his own net as he attempted to head clear - the ball going in off the inside of the post. Hennessey made a fine save to keep out a bouncing header from Carroll and then Christophe Berra was well placed to clear from Luis Suarez after the Spaniard had beaten Johnson and hit a low cross into the six-yard box. Suarez just failed to get a touch to Carroll's teasing cross and when Wolves went forward Martin Skrtel upended O'Hara 22-yards out from the home goal. This time Hunt took the free-kick but once again the home wall did its job. Suarez scooped a low shot wide of the far post after a cross from Stewart Downing before Karl Henry was harshly booked for a harmless looking challenge on Skrtel. A minute later Lucas went into the book for felling Richard Stearman. Lucas conceded a foul on Doyle right on the 18-yard line and with the home defence expecting Hunt to lift the ball into the middle, the midfielder instead squared the ball to Edwards whose well struck shot bounced clear off Lucas. Wolves went two behind in the 38th minute when Jose Enrique's lofted through ball released Suarez who beat the offside trap and ran into the box, dummying Berra before drilling the ball past Hennessey. Hunt was yellow carded for a late challenge on Adam and, in stoppage time, Suarez flicked the ball narrowly wide.
Half-Time: Liverpool 2 Wolves 0
Wolves made a double switch at half-time with Matt Doherty making his Premier League debut when he was sent on for Stearman, and Fletcher replacing Edwards. And it took Fletcher just four minutes to make his mark. O'Hara's centre was punched out by Reina but only as far as Henry. His attempted cross was blocked by Enrique but the ball ran to Hunt and he laid it into the path of Fletcher who lashed it into the roof of the net (pictured). Seconds after the restart Hennessey and Carroll collided as they went for Downing's cross. The ball dropped for Suarez who looked odds on to score only for Hennessey to pull off a brilliant reflex save. In the 52nd minute Wolves were fortunate not to concede a third when Carroll headed powerfully against the post following another Downing centre. Wolves were almost caught out as they piled forward for a corner leaving Liverpool with a four on one break. Adam slipped the ball to Downing but he was denied by the impeccable Hennessey. Doyle latched on to a Matt Jarvis cross but his shot on the turn was blocked by a defender and the ball trickled through to Reina. Carroll was shown the yellow card after clattering into Doherty as the Irish youngster attempted to clear. On the hour mark Skrtel caught Fletcher in the ribs with a high challenge. The referee didn't even award a foul and after treatment the striker made a point of lifting his shirt and showing the official the marks on his chest. After a well-constructed build up, O'Hara fired over the bar and then Martin Kelly was booked for a crude challenge that spread-eagled Jarvis. O'Hara's free-kick caused chaos in the home box before the ball was finally cleared whilst, at the other end, Lucas brushed the post with a low shot from the edge of the box. Doherty showed calm and composure as he cleared a dangerous ball into the heart of the box from Suarez, and Hennessey had little difficulty in dealing with an effort from Liverpool substitute Dirk Kyut. Wolves were still enjoying plenty of attacking play but the Liverpool back four were holding firm. Adlene Guedioura was a late replacement for Hunt and shortly after his introduction he sent a volley high over the bar. Few in the home crowd could have complained if Wolves had taken a point from the game, but it wasn't to be. But at least the travelling fans saw a performance that was vastly improved from the one against Queens Park Rangers a week earlier.

and the Beeb says Liverpool resisted a second-half fightback from Wolves to secure a hard-fought victory and end a run of back-to-back Premier League defeats. Kenny Dalglish's side took the lead when Charlie Adam's shot was headed into his own goal by Roger Johnson. Jose Enrique's long ball over the top was fired in at close range by Luis Suarez for the Reds' second. And although Steven Fletcher cut the deficit for Wolves, tucking in Stephen Hunt's cross, the home side held on. It was a much-needed victory for Liverpool after league defeats by Stoke and Tottenham and leaves the Reds with 10 points from their first six matches. Captain Steven Gerrard, who had returned to action against Brighton in midweek in the League Cup after six months out with a groin injury, came on again for the final 10 minutes. Craig Bellamy had impressed in the match at Brighton but he was left out as Liverpool manager Dalglish favoured Andy Carroll up front. Carroll had another fruitless afternoon, but came close with a header that hit a post.
Despite starting with a 4-5-1 formation for the first time this season, Wolves - who had lost 3-0 in their last Premier League outing against QPR - started well, with Jamie O'Hara shooting at Jose Reina. It was Liverpool, though, who snatched the lead in fortuitous style in the 11th minute. After Martin Kelly's cross was cleared by Johnson, Stewart Downing teed the ball up for Adam and the Scotsman's 25-yard shot was diverted past Wayne Hennessey by the Wolves skipper's header. Johnson protested as he felt he had been fouled while clearing the initial cross as he tussled with Carroll, but the goal stood. Soon after, Carroll headed at Hennessey and the impressive Suarez then shot wide before Liverpool further extended their lead. Enrique's chipped pass over the top was met by a perfectly timed run by Suarez, who twisted and turned to leave Christophe Berra struggling before firing in from eight yards. Suarez came close again, poking the ball wide of the far post as Liverpool finished the first half strongly. That prompted Wolves manager Mick McCarthy to make a double substitution at half-time as he switched to a 4-4-2 formation. McCarthy was rewarded after just four minutes when one of the subs, Fletcher, shot in from eight yards after Hunt's cut-back with Reina and Martin Skrtel getting in each other's way. Liverpool soon came close with a string of chances. Hennessey was outstanding, first blocking a close-range Suarez effort. Carroll hit the post with a back-post header after a cross from the excellent Downing, who later watched a chance of his own being saved by the Wolves keeper. The game increasingly opened up and Wolves had opportunities of their own as Jamie O'Hara shot off target and Berra threatened with a header. Gerrard emerged with 10 minutes to play as he replaced Suarez - who kicked a water bottle in frustration at his withdrawal - and struck over from 30 yards as Liverpool held on. Live text and stats

Tue 20th September Wolves 5 Millwall 0 Carling Cup 3rd Round k.o. 7:45pm
Wolverhampton 5 - 0 Millwall Carling Cup third round
Tuesday, 20 September 2011 A great performance from the “reserves” – especially Davey Edwards who opedned the scoring and congrats to James Spray scoring on debut Wolves 5 (Edwards 3, Hammill 7, Elokobi 38, Vokes 77, Guedioura 88) Millwall 0
Wolves cruised into the fourth round of the Carling Cup after hitting five past Millwall including a goal from Adlene Guedioura who rounded off the scoring with a stunning effort just before the end. Just three of the players that had started against Queens Park Rangers three days earlier, George Elokobi, Richard Stearman and Christophe Berra, began the game against The Lions. Millwall kicked-off attacking the North Bank end of the ground but it was Wanderers that took the early advantage with a goal after just three minutes. Skipper on the night, Stephen Hunt, fired in a cross from the right and when Sam Vokes' header was blocked Dave Edwards was on hand to force the ball over the line. Four minutes later and it was two. Alan Dunn handled some 22-yards out and Adam Hammill curled a terrific free-kick beyond the reach of Steve Mildenhall in the Millwall goal. It was the winger's first goal for the club. The visiting defence were struggling stem the pressure and after Vokes had a shot blocked following a lay off from Edwards, Nenad Milijaś drove narrowly wide. Guedioura was the next to try his luck. He picked the ball up on the halfway line and raced towards the Millwall box before hitting a fierce shot that was wide of the mark. It was in the 22nd minute that the small group of travelling fans finally had something to cheer - a low effort from Hamer Bouazza that drew a diving save from Dorus De Vries. Elokobi did well to block a Dany N'Guessan attempt at goal and then, at the other end, Hammill curled a shot into the keeper's arms. Guedioura's low cross was just too far in front of Vokes but the Algerian used his speed and skill to fashion a third goal after 38 minutes. He rode several challenges as he darted into the box before squaring the ball for Elokobi who had the easiest of tasks in converting from virtually on the line. Three minutes later, both keepers were tested within the space of a few seconds. Mildenhall dived full length to claim a long-range effort from Milijaś and then De Vries cut out an angled drive from N'Guessan at the near post. Just before the break, Bouazza went into the book for pulling back Matt Doherty.
Half-Time: Wolves 3 Millwall 0
Both sides made a change at the start of the new half. For Wolves, Michael Kightly went on for Edwards whilst Scott Barron replaced Bouazza for the visitors. Hammill cut in from the left and hit a curling shot into the arms of Mildenhall and when the Londoners next threatened, De Vries just beat John Marquis to the loose ball after he had parried James Henry's low drive. Jack Smith got in a timely clearing header as Kightly's cross looked destined for Milijaś at the far post before, on the hour, Kightly almost capitalised on a defensive lapse but a heavy touch allowed Mildenhall to claim. Some fine wing play by Hammill saw him progress deep into the Millwall box before he lifted the ball over the bar from a tight angle and then Kightly forced a good save Mildenhall. Kightly also figured in Wolves next attack. Both Hammill and Vokes allowed his low pass to run through to Milijaś who hit a first time effort narrowly wide. Academy graduate James Spray made his first team debut when he replaced Hunt and within three minutes of his introduction he was celebrating as he latched onto an attempted clearance from Hammill's cross and his shot went in off Vokes. But the goal of the night came from the right foot of Guedioura. Vokes' header from Kightly's corner was pushed out by Mildenhall but only as far as Elokobi who slipped a pass to Guedioura. From 30-yards he hit an absolute scorcher into the top corner. It was a contender for any Goal of the Month and it rounded off an impressive display from Mick McCarthy's team.

Wolves defender Roger Johnson will be missing with a calf injury while an ankle problem rules Kevin Foley out of the clash with Millwall. Jody Craddock and Ronald Zubar are also unavailable for Mick McCarthy's side.
Millwall are without Darius Henderson, who has a calf injury, while Jay Simpson and Liam Feeney are cup-tied. John Marquis has been playing despite needing a hernia operation but could be rested, while there could be a recall for Josh McQuoid.
MATCH PREVIEW
After a promising start to the season Wolves have been soundly beaten in their last two Premier League games so the Carling Cup offers a chance to steady the ship. Booed off at Molineux after losing to QPR on Saturday, Mick McCarthy's side are struggling for goals - they have managed just four in five league games - and suddenly the defence looks vulnerable as well.
Millwall will hope to capitalise on Wolves' fragile confidence but must engineer an improvement in their own form. They are finding goals equally hard to come by and have just one league win to their name this season. But Saturday's goalless derby draw with West Ham showed there is a resilience to Kenny Jackett's side that should cause Wolves problems.
MATCH FACTS Head-to-head The only meeting between the two sides in this competition was in September 1968 when Wolves won 5-1 in a third-round tie. Wolves have 17 wins and Millwall 10 from their previous 36 meetings. Wolves Wolves' last major silverware was in this competition in 1980 when an Andy Gray goal gave them a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the final. They have been knocked out by Manchester United in each of the last two seasons. Mick McCarthy' s side beat Northampton 4-0 in the second round but have not scored in their last three games. Wolves are looking to advance beyond the third round for only the third time in 16 seasons. Millwall Millwall have made the quarter-finals three times but were knocked out by Ipswich at this stage last season - the furthest they had gone in five years. Their last victory over Premier League opposition in this competition was a 4-2 aggregate second-round win against Everton in October 1995. Like Wolves, they have not scored in their previous three games, their last goals coming in the 2-0 second-round win against Morecambe. The Lions' only away win of the season was a 1-0 victory at Plymouth in the first round.
Sat 17th September Wolves 0 Quens Park Rangers 3 (Barton 8, Faurlin 10, Campbell 86)
Absolutely abject. Wolves still believed the hype from the first three games and let Barton of all people dominate them.
After a woeful start Wolves were always chasing the game against a newly promoted Queens Park Rangers team boosted in recent weeks by some big money signings. Following a one sided opening half, Mick McCarthy's team were fortunate not to be more than two down but, despite an improved second-half showing, they conceded again just
before the end on what was an unhappy afternoon for the home support. With Steven Fletcher out injured, Stephen Ward moved up front to share striking duties with Kevin Doyle
and George Elokobi came in at left-back. The other change saw Matt Jarvis returning for Stephen Hunt who was named as a substitute. Wolves kicked-off attacking the South Bank end and they found themselves two down after just ten minutes following a nightmare start. With just 70 seconds on the clock Wayne Hennessey pulled off a tremendous save to keep out a Shaun Derry header that was arrowing towards the top corner. The visitors continued to pile the pressure on and they were rewarded in the eighth minute when Joey Barton hooked home a miscued Shaun Wright-Phillips cross. Worse was to follow as Richard Stearman's header out of the area went only as far as Alejandro Faurlin who teed a volley up for himself before blasting the ball past Hennessey from 20-yards. Karl Henry did his best to reduce the deficit with a first time drive from outside the box that clipped the bottom of the post after Elokobi's cross had been headed out. Wright-Phillips beat the offside trap in the 17th minute but he chose to shoot early and Hennessey had little trouble in collecting.
Attendance: 24,189.
Early goals in quick succession from Joey Barton and Alejandro Faurlin and a late effort from DJ Campbell saw new-look QPR win comfortably at Molineux. Skipper Barton netted his first goal for Rangers in the eighth minute when he converted a fine cross from fellow new signing Shaun Wright-Phillips. Two minutes later it was 2-0, as the enterprising Faurlin made Wanderers pay for some slack defending. DJ Campbell made it three in stoppage time after a run from Armand Traore.
Warnock delights in summer signings QPR manager Neil Warnock will take plenty of encouragement from the performance of his side - featuring the five permanent signings recruited since Tony Fernandes' takeover of
the London club - ran rings around their opponents at times. Karl Henry did manage to hit the post for Wolves but they were booed off by the dejected home fans. Shaun Wright-Phillips, who only played two games for Manchester City last season, made his second Premier League start for QPR and clearly revelled in his new role. The England winger was given plenty of room to roam and laid on the ball for Barton, who despite seeming to scuff his shot, got enough on the ball to get it past Welsh
international keeper Wayne Hennessey. Wolves conceded again just two minutes later when the ball fell to Faurlin who lashed in a 20-yard left-footed shot which Hennessey could only palm into the net The home side tried to bounce back immediately. In the 13th minute, amid appeals for a penalty, Henry took advantage of the confusion to hit the post. But down at the other end Wright-Phillips was a real handful for the Wolves defence and beat the offside trap to nearly hit the third after 17 minutes. This time, though, Hennessey was there to deny him with a smart save. Stephen Ward, making his 150th League appearance, was the main weapon for Wolves and he went close after some loose marking in the Rangers box. The second half saw Wolves manager Mick McCarthy react to his team's inertia by making a double change, bringing on Sam Vokes and Adlene Guedioura for Elokobi and Michael Kightly. Ward went into defence but the two early goals seem to have paralysed Wolves who could find no answer to Rangers who were superbly orchestrated by Barton. Matt Jarvis was replaced by favourite Stephen Hunt but failed to raise the spirits of the home crowd. The game ended with Rangers in control when man-of the-match Wright-Phillips hit the post just before substitute DJ Campbell made it three as Wolves limped off to lick their wounds. Barton's enthusiasm nearly got him into the trouble with the ref Anthony Taylor as the teams left the field. The fiery midfielder had to be restrained amid protests he had been elbowed in a late challenge.

Sat 10th September Wolves 0 v Tottenham 2 (Adebayor 67, Defore 80) k.o. 3pm
Wolves saw it like this....
Score Wolves 0 - 2 Tottenham FT
(HT 0 - 0) Adebayor 67, Defoe 80
For just over an hour this was a game of end to end action with both Wolves and Spurs playing some neat, flowing football. But it was the Londoners that stole the show with two goals in the final 23 minutes to inflict a first defeat of the season on Mick McCarthy's men. There was just one change to the Wolves line-up with Michael Kightly coming in for Matt Jarvis who had been recovering from an ankle injury and was named a substitute. Spurs kicked-off attacking the South Bank end and they won a corner after just 20 seconds with Kevin Doyle heading away Niko Kranjcar's flag kick. Then a Jermain Defoe shot was deflected behind and this time Kranjcar's corner sailed over a crowded box and out behind on the far side of goal. Wolves responded with a cracking cross from Stephen Ward that the visiting defence struggled to clear, and a long range effort from Stephen Hunt that lacked the power to trouble Brad Friedel in the Tottenham goal. Spurs almost took the lead after nine minutes when Benoit Assou-Ekotto's low cross hit Roger Johnson and was deflected towards goal. Wayne Hennessey managed to knock the ball away but only as far as Kranjcar whose follow up was brilliantly kicked off the line by Richard Stearman who was running in facing his own goal. Moments later Stearman dispossessed Kranjcar inside the Spurs half and took the ball to the edge of the box before slipping a short pass to Jamie O'Hara whose first time shot was beaten way by Friedel. Karl Henry won a challenge on the halfway line and raced to the Tottenham box slipping inside a defender before hitting a shot that was destined for the far corner until Friedel dived full length to turn it behind. Kightly had a header saved by the American following a cross by Hunt who then jinked his way into the area between Ledley King and Assou-Ekotto only to stumble as he was about to shoot. Henry was harshly deemed to have obstructed Kranjcar some 25-yards out. The Croatian took the free-kick himself and then the corner that followed after his shot took a deflection off the wall. From the corner, King bounced a header over the bar. Kyle Walker went into the book for dissent after he was penalised for a challenge on Doyle to the left of the Tottenham area. Kightly lifted over a dangerous free-kick and Johnson climbed high at the back post to send a header just the wrong side of the woodwork. Spurs threatened twice in the closing minutes of the half. O'Hara lost possession to Defoe whose low shot was turned around the post by Hennessey, then Gareth Bale beat the offside trap as he ran into the home area before shooting into the side netting.
Half-Time: Wolves 0 Spurs 0
In the early stages of the new half, Hennessey had to race from his area to hack clear as Emmanuel Adebayor ran through, before a Hunt cross was headed out by Scott Parker but only as far as O'Hara who tested Friedel with a first-time shot from 20-yards. In the 50th minute, Luka Modric fed Defoe who squared the ball to Bale but Henry nipped in to clear just as the Welsh midfielder looked likely to opening the scoring. But, with the half midway through, Tottenham moved ahead, Parker slipped the ball through to Adebayor who skipped around Hennessey before planting the ball into the empty net. Parker then went into the book for tripping Kightly but O'Hara's free-kick was cleared. With 15 minutes remaining, Wolves switched Adam Hammill and Jarvis for Kightly and Hunt. Five minutes after his introduction, Hammill was booked for a push on Parker and from the resulting free-kick, Spurs went two up. The ball was played to Defoe who then took a return pass from Kranjcar before hammering the ball past the diving Hennessey. Sam Vokes took the place of Steven Fletcher, and Johnson was booked for a heavy challenge on Defoe as the game approached what was a disappointing conclusion for the home support.
Wolves: Hennessey, Stearman, Ward, Henry, Berra, M. Johnson (capt), Kightly (Hammill 75), O'Hara, Doyle, Fletcher (Vokes 80), Hunt (Jarvis 75). Unused subs: Elokobi, Milijaśs, De Vries, Foley. Bookings: Hammill (79 - pushing), Johnson (83 - foul).
Spurs: Friedel, Bale, Kaboul, Parker (Livermore 84), Adebayor, Modric, Defoe (Dos Santos 89), Kranjcar, King (capt), Walker, Assou-Ekotto. Unused subs: Pavlyuchenko, Bassong, Cudicini, Townsend, Falque. Bookings: Walker (35 - foul), Parker (67 - foul).
Referee: P. Walton. Attendance: 25,274.
While a tally of seven points from the opening four fixtures is certainly more than healthy, that was of no solace to the disappointed boss. When asked if he'd have taken seven points from four at the start of the season he responded: "But you didn't say that to me did you! And nobody else said it either! When we were on seven I wanted 10, or even eight, so I'm not settling for seven. We didn't want to get beat but we set out with a 4-4-2 today trying to get to ten. I'm not taking any silver lining from having seven points from the first four games, we had seven before we kicked off. "It is an encouraging start but we've got 34 to play and there are still all the Champions League teams to play. "We had five points on the board this time last year before losing to Fulham and Spurs when it took us a long time to get to seven. "It's been an encouraging start but there are still 34 games to go!" On the game itself, the boss admitted it was even stevens all the way up until midway through the second half when Scott Parker's precise through pass was taken on and finished off by fellow debutant Adebayor. From there it became Spurs day after an end-to-end first 45 minutes in which both sides had gone close, Wolves notably through a fine run and shot from Karl Henry. Anybody who watched the last 20 minutes would have thought we'd got a right 'doing' in the game but that wasn't the case because we'd done alright up to then. We'd matched them in every department up until they got the first goal. We competed in the game and played very well in the game but in the end were beaten by a team who had a bit more quality than us and scored a couple of goals. Brad Friedel made a good save off Karl Henry and they produced some good defending and we had opportunities to create chances rather than actually creating them. They were all patting him on the back when they came off at half time and he's a very experienced keeper who has been one of the best in the Premier League for a long time. They picked us off twice when we didn't really defend as we should and for the second goal one of our lads slipped but they had that quality and presence of mind to finish it off on both occasions. We've had lots of the game without the final pass or finish to get a goal and that would certainly have helped us. When you are playing well and having as much of the game as the opposition - probably more in the first half - and especially in the Premier League you need to take your chances or create a good one you can get a goal from. From a defensive point of view it was probably all a little bit too easy for them and I'm not happy with how we defended their two goals but they've got that quality to open you up."

MATCH PREVIEW
After being convincingly beaten by both clubs from Manchester in their two opening two league games so far, suddenly a trip to Molineux looks a little trickier for Tottenham than it
did before a ball was kicked in early August.
A return of seven points from the first nine has been a tremendous lift to Wolves and has immediately given them a platform from which to build on. Continue reading the main story
The signing of Roger Johnson in the summer by Wolves looks to be a masterstroke
Just to put things into perspective, it was 30 October last season before Mick McCarthy's team passed the seven-point mark, taking them 10 games to do it. They were playing
catch up from an early stage and went on to concede 66 goals.
But the signing of Roger Johnson in the summer looks to be a masterstroke and clean sheets in each of the last two games is far more encouraging.
This will be the first time Spurs have taken to the field since the closure of the transfer window and Harry Redknapp has admitted the Luka Modric situation has taken its toll on the
team. Spurs need Modric back in last season's sparkling form quickly, and if that happens alongside new signing Scott Parker, there will be a whole new look to their midfield.
Whilse there was frustration at not adding a new face in defence, where Gary Cahill would have been a welcome addition, the introduction of Emmanuel Adebayor should help them
convert more chances. What price a debut goal from the former Arsenal striker to make sure everyone is focusing around on the pitch events again? MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
This is the 92nd meeting between the sides. Tottenham have won 45 times, Wolves 27 and there have been 19 draws. Spurs have only lost one of their last five league games at Wolves. Tottenham won 3-1 when they clashed at White Hart Lane last year and the match at Molineux was a thrilling 3-3 draw. Wolves' Steven Fletcher and Tottenham's Roman Pavlyuchenko scored in both those matches. Fletcher hаѕ scored six goals in hіѕ last nine Premier League games in total.
Wolves
Wolves have only lost one of their last seven league matches. They briefly topped the table for the second time this season after their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. The last time before this season that they lead the top flight was 29th
September 1962. Opta stats have recorded that Wolves have averaged 52.2% possession in league matches this season, a higher figure than Arsenal's 51.5%. Jamie O'Hara's eight shots off target this season is more than any other top-flight player has had.
Tottenham
Spurs won just three of their final 12 league games last season and have lost their first two matches this season. This is their worst run since November 2008. They have kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 top-flight matches. Brad Friedel is set to make his 269th consecutive Premier League appearance. He last missed a game in May 2004. Tottenham have conceded three goals in their first two matches of a Premier League season just once before, in 1998/1999. They lost 3-1 away at Wimbledon and 3-0 at home
against Sheffield Wednesday. The last time they conceded three goals in their first three league games of a season was in the 1979-80 season (Middlesbrough 1-3 h, Norwich 0-4
a, Stoke 1-3 a). In a 20-team league season, no side has ever gone on to finish in the top four after gaining a point or less from their opening three matches. Tottenham have won only one of their last 24 Premier League away games in the month of September and none of the last 15 since beating Sunderland in 2001
