FIXTURES

Sat 27th March Wolves Everton KO 3pm

Man of the match Doyle; close runner up Marcus Hahnemann with a very brave save from Gosling at the death, while Jody cleared off the line in the 94th minute. And an excellent performance by Michael Mancienne to shackle Pienaar in midfield. As at West Ham, everyone gave everything - but we really only had three chances = a wild Craddock shot, a set up for Foley from Doyler which in form Jarvo might well have converted if the chance had come to him and a clearance from 10 yards by Ronnie Zubar, which again could have been a great goal. Louis Saha hit the woodwork off a long ball from keeper Howard. Occasionally Everton showed their class in midfield

Molineux sang to ref Jones that he might as wear Blue - penalising our players for challenges which went unpunished by the opposition. Two useless linos again - when was the rule changed that allowed you to be offside from a goal kick?

Up to 14th

Wolves 0 Everton 0

Wolves had to battle all the way to take a point from in form Everton at Molineux. But Mick McCarthy's men made it four games unbeaten as they edged a little closer to Premier League safety.

The manager had named an unchanged side after the mid-week victory at West Ham and they kicked-off attacking the South Bank end. After two minutes Matt Jarvis was wide as he tried to deflect the ball in at the near post following a cross from Kevin Foley. But it took a reflex save from Marcus Hahnemann to prevent the Merseysiders from taking a sixth minute lead. Steven Pienaar crossed from the right and Leon Osman looked odds on to score as he sidefooted the ball goalwards only for Hahnemann to throw himself to his right and palm the ball away. Osman figured again as he fired wide after a Phil Neville long throw had fallen to him, and then Hahnemann saved a low effort from Louis Saha. Everton were looking strong and another shot from Osman was taken by Hahnemann after the ball had taken a deflection off Michael Mancienne. Dave Jones was crowded out as he tried to work a shooting position for himself just inside the Everton box and then a smart piece of work from Ronald Zubar saw the visiting defence opened up. The defender left Osman in his wake and sprinted into the right of the Everton area. He lashed the cross into the heart of the goalmouth where it hit Phil Jagielka and flew behind. Jarvis took the flag-kick but Toffees keeper Tim Howard punched clear. A tremendous shot from Saha was inches away from giving the visitors the lead in the 38th minute. He chested down a deep cross and then took a touch before smashing a shot against the angle from the edge of the box. The crowd reacted with anger as the referee waved play on after John Heitinga had clearly fouled Jarvis. There was a chance for Tim Cahill two minutes before the break after Jagielka lobbed the ball into the Wolves box. It fell to Cahill but he blazed a shot high over Hahnemann's bar. Then it was Wolves' turn to go close. A Jarvis corner was headed back by Zubar to Jody Craddock who drove the ball over the bar from near the penalty spot. In stoppage time Sylvain Distin fouled Kevin Doyle just outside the Everton 18-yard line but Jones's free-kick went straight to Howard.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 Everton 0

Inside two minutes of the resumption, Leighton Baines fouled Zubar to the right-hand corner of the Everton area. Jones took the free-kick but then found himself in the book for taking it before the referee had whistled. When it was retaken Jarvis decided to have a pot but Howard punched the ball clear. A well timed challenge from Craddock was enough to put Saha off as he ran in onto Osman's centre - the French striker's header going over the bar. Christophe Berra helped on a throw from Foley but when the ball dropped to Jarvis he hooked it high over the bar. A Baines free-kick deflected wide off the defensive wall and when Baines took the resultant corner, Cahill headed wide of the mark. Foley was penalised for what looked a perfectly good tackle on Pienaar but justice was done when Baines's free-kick went over everyone and out on the far side for a goal-kick. After Pienaar was booked for a late challenge on Karl Henry, George Elokobi came to the rescue diverting a header from Saha that looked bound to present Cahill with an easy chance right in front of goal. With 20 minutes remaining Adlene Guedioura replaced Mancienne before Foley curled the ball over the angle after Jones had touched a Jarvis cross into his path. In the 74th minute Zubar almost repeated his heroics of Upton Park when he played a one two with Doyle on the right and raced into the area before lashing an angled shot narrowly over the bar. Pienaar twice had the opportunity of breaking the deadlock in a two minute spell. His first shot took a deflection and flew wide and then he scuffed his second effort straight into the hands of Hahnemann. Guedioura was high and wide with a spectacular overhead kick after a centre from Foley then, when Jarvis, Foley and Elokobi combined there was a tremendous scramble in the Everton goalmouth before Doyle hit a shot over the bar. Cahill set up a chance for substitute Dan Gosling but Hahnemann spotted the danger and cut the ball out. The two collided and Gosling was only able to continue after lengthy treatment and even then he spent stoppage time limping heavily. Deep into the added time, Craddock cleared an overhead kick from Cahill that was just about to cross the line.

As it happened

0: Wolves unchanged again. Everton make one change, Rodwell for Arteta, who has a groin strain. Fabio Capello due to make his first visit to ~Molineux this afternoon.

0: Teams are out.

0: Handshakes and handshakes complete, the game underway.

3: First opening to Wolves but it's a difficult one. Doyle feeds Foley on the right and his cross is met by a prod from Jarvis which Howard watches wide.

3: Looks like Everton also lining up with one up front, Saha, with the likes of Cahill, Osman and Pienaar detailed to get forward in support.

6: Everton's first real attack sees Saha dink a cross in from the right which Foley heads clear.

~

6: And almost immediately a real gilt-edged opening for Everton. Pienaar plays a one-two with Saha before crossing for Osman who's just six yards out. Osman scored first the last time Wolves played Everton at ~Molineux. But not this time, his close range effort instinctively blocked by Hahnemann. Great save.

9: Everton are starting to really dominate the early proceedings with Wolves looking rattled in defence, uncharacteristic in recent weeks. A routine cross causes problems and then from Neville's long throw Osman is again in space but his low shot is wide.

10: Another Everton chance with Neville's clever pass across the area dummied by both Osman and Pienaar for Saha whose low right foot drive is taken by Hahnemann.

13: Two great pieces of work by Craddock, first with a powerful challenge on Cahill and then reading Baines' intentions after the full back had latched onto a great pass down the left.

16: Osman again to the fore for the visitors cutting across the area. Mancienne gets a block on his shot and so the ball pops up nicely for Hahnemann to collect.

~

17: Wolves try and fashion an opening on the edge of the Everton box with Jones, Doyle and Foley involved but it all gets a bit crowded and the visitors clear.

18: Wolves enjoying a spot of possession with Jones trying to fashion an opening. Zubar then powers down the right but decides to blast the ball at the crucial moment rather than place the cross. Jagielka doesn't know much about it but it hits him and goes out for a corner!

19: Jarvis's flag kick is a good one but Howard punches clear under pressure from Berra.

~

20: Good work now from Foley whose cross just evades the arriving attackers. Elokobi keeps the pressure on and then another Foley cross is met by Zubar but skims off the top of his head. Crowd getting going now.

24: Good cross from Rodwell at the other end and Berra does well to head away.

25: There's a few Everton challenges going unpunished by referee Mike Jones (he of the Wigan penalty appeal when booking ~Andy Keogh!) but Wolves do get a decision when Rodwell goes in late on Foley.

26: Cahill flicks on Jagielka's long free kick and Saha has a chance but Zubar nips in well to nick the ball away. Corner. Inswinger from Baines but Hahnemann takes well.

35: All quietened down somewhat with both sides enjoying spells of possession but not turning it into clear cut chances. Everton's defenders are taking goal kicks for Howard, who was struggling pre-match with a thigh injury.

~

38: Closest so far as Saha finds space before letting fly with that left foot. Beats Hahnemann but not the woodwork as it slams the crossbar.

42: Jarvis turns inside Heitinga and appears to be impeded by the Everton man. Nothing doing from referee Jones. Then a similar incident the other way around sees Everton given a free kick. Wolves have reason to feel hard done by again.

43: Free kick goes into the box and Cahill fires over from a half volley. "Who's the Scouser in the black" is the chorus from the South Bank.

44: Wolves quickly attack and Jarvis finds an inch of space but his shot is blocked by the might of Distin.

45: Jones' corner headed back into the danger zone by Zubar and while Heitinga can't clear Craddock slams the half volley over.

45: One minute added time to follow.

45+1: Doyle goes past Distin and there's not much contact but now it's Wolves' turn to get the decision. Free kick.

45+1: Jones whips it in but it's easy for Howard.

HALF TIME: WOLVES 0-0 EVERTON

46: Back underway and the first opening sees Rodwell trying a long range shot which goes straight through to Hahnemann.

47: Jones takes the free kick which is taken easily by Howard. But referee Jones decides to book Jones. Possibly taking it before the whistle? Who knows. It's a scandalous decision either way.

48: Foley swings it in next time and Howard punches away.

50: The Wolves defence has started the second half in the same shaky way as the first. But Berra gets enough on the ball to deny Saha who was close to getting on the end of Cahill's flick-on.

53: Let-off for Wolves. Great cross from Osman is met by Saha on the full but he heads over. Craddock did well to get a jump in to increase the difficulty of the chance.

54: Jones takes short free kick to Elokobi whose cross is headed out for a throw-in by Cahill. Throw-in flicked on by Berra but Jarvis fires half-volley over.

55: Now it's Craddock in with a powerful header to win the ball. But referee Jones this time adjudges he came through the back of Cahill. Free kick in a dangerous position.

56: Baines' free kick clips off a Wolves head in the wall and is just over. Corner.

57: Flag kick met by Cahill at the near post but his header drifts across the box and wide without any Everton foot on the end of it. Ironic cheers as referee Jones awards a goal kick. And now the crowd up the noise levels.

59: Foley sends a cross into the area and Jarvis keeps the ball alive but the Everton defence and then able to marshal the ball back safely to Howard.

61: Everton on the attack with Cahill teeing up Rodwell's centre for Heitinga who tries to pick his spot but it's taken comfortably by Hahnemann.

62: Foley in with what looks like a clean tackle on Pienaar. It wasn't says the referee. Seems to be suggesting a scissors movement as Zubar was also coming on in the other side.

62: Hahnemann comes for Baines' free kick but it's too deep and goes out for a goal kick.

~

63: Saha in strongly on Berra with a foul. Talking-to from the referee but no card. And yet Jones got booked earlier. Bizarre.

65: Pienaar clips Henry's heels as he tries to break away. For a moment it looks that even that isn't going to be a booking but finally it is. More ironic applause.

68: Another near miss for Wolves. Saha wins a dangerous header into the area and Elokobi has to come in to clear from Cahilll and Craddock is almost caught out by Osman only for Hahnemann to collect.

69: Another poor poor decision as Doyle battles with Jagielka and the Everton man gets the nod. Jones, Neville and Heitinga had a bit of afters when Heitinga's efforts to grab the ball saw him kick Jones to the floor. Talking-to from Jones this time. "You're not fit to referee" once more from the masses.

70: Switch for Wolves with Guedioura on for Mancienne. And another poor decision as Jarvis gets the ball but is penalised. Shock!

72: Wolves trying to use their increasing frustration at the referee to positive effect. A Jarvis centre is touched back to Foley whose first time curler is just too high.

~

76: Fabulous move from Wolves, and Zubar at the heart of it. Exchanges passes with both Foley and Doyle down the right before cutting in and firing over with his left foot.

76: Change for Everton, Yakubu for Saha.

77: Ball breaks to Osman 25 yards out but his low drive is wide.

79: Neville's long throw is headed out but straight to Pienaar whose low drive takes a deflection and out for a corner.

79: Baines delivers the flag kick but Rodwell's header is over.

80: Elokobi sends a free kick into the area and Berra climbs well for the header but can only glance the ball towards Howard rather than divert it back into the danger zone.

82: Everton break rapidly and Osman heads back for Pienaar who miskicks and it's through to Hahnemann. Fortunately the miskick had enough pace on it to go beyond Yakubu who was lurking with intent.

83: Foley delivers a deep cross and Guedioura tries a spectacular overhead kick but it's a difficult chance and well wide.

83: Switch for Everton with Gosling on for Osman.

87: Some good and patient build-up play from Wolves down the left ends with Elokobi's powerfil cross being put out for a corner.

88: There follows an almighty scramble from the flag kick and eventually the ball breaks for Doyle whose shot on the stretch is wide.

88: Final change for Everton, Bilyaletdinov on for Rodwell.

89: Crowd is 28, 995.

89: Still could be something left in this game and Craddock does well to come across and block Gosling's cross. Corner. Well-worked routine but finishes with Gosling's shot being blocked.

90: Into the last minute and it's Everton pushing forward.

90: Hahnemann to the rescue. Cahill heads the ball across goal and it's perfect for Gosling but after his touch Hahnemann is in strongly to smother the ball.

90: Three minutes added time but there may be more as Gosling needs treatment.

90: With the game still stopped Wolves make their final two changes, Iwelumo and Ward for Doyle and Jarvis.

90: Gosling has got to his feet but very gingerly indeed. Hobbling off to the side of the pitch.

90+2: We've now had 92 minutes but guessing there'll be another three from now.

90+3: Game restarts and Gosling back on.

90+4: Balls pumped forward by Everton being headed away. Pienaar then gets hold of one but his low shot is again straight at Hahnemann.

90+4: So close for Everton. Cahill with another forward run clips it past Hahnemann with an overhead. Probably creeping in but Craddock gets back to clear. Corner comes in and Craddock heads out for another one. This time it's Iwelumo with the clearing header.

FULL TIME: WOLVES 0-0 EVERTON

Tue 23rd March West Ham United Wolves  KO 8pm Live on Sky (rescheduled from January)

West Ham 1 (Franco 90) Wolves 3 (Doyle 28, Zubar 58, Jarvis 61) Live on Sky

A terrific party atmosphere at the Boleyn ground as Wolves put a 7 point gap on the relegation zone. West Ham, Scott Parker apart, were pretty poor. There is a petition being raised to ask that all teams we play between now and the end of the season play in claret & blue (especially the Arsenal who can wear their jubilee shirts) after a 3-1-3 points tally (and the 1 should have been 3 - linesman faults). After the disappointment 5 years ago when Joleon stood on the ball and let Teddy Sheringham nick it and score, this was a much better feeling. The game was killed off by Ronald Zubar's first premiership goal for Wolves. And perhaps we've seen off the Sky voodoo. Another Doyler man of the match, free flowing football, probably Jarvo's best ever goal and the Hammers fans leaving a half empty stadium on 60 minutes, telling their players they weren't fit to wear the shirt. Several fine saves by Marcus H, and a brilliant one from the post from Parker right on half time. Shame there was no clean sheet but temp right back Greg Halford hasn't learnt to step up. And Mick's celebration told us the pressure he has felt.

And see Dave & Robert’s pre-match interviews (about two thirds down) herewww.winkball.com/walls/Football_Reporters/West_Ham_v_Wolves

Sour note - also picked up by Sky - the senior steward who tried to stop George Elokobi, Ronnie Zubar and USA Hahnemann giving their shirts away after the match.

Wolves took a massive leap towards Premier League safety following one of their best displays of the season as they ruthlessly put West Ham to the sword to avenge the opening day defeat at Molineux and record a first victory at Upton Park over The Hammers since 1978.

After six games with the same starting line up, Mick McCarthy made two changes with George Elokobi coming in for Stephen Ward at left-back, and Michael Mancienne in midfield for Adlene Guedioura. Wolves kicked-off defending the end of Upton Park that housed around 1,500 travelling fans and they looked on as James Tomkins cleared an early cross from Matt Jarvis. Kevin Foley was inches away from opening his goal account for the season in the eighth minute as he ran onto a headed flick from Kevin Doyle. After outpacing Fabio Daprela, Foley smashed an angled volley against the bar with the ball ricocheting to safety on the far side. Home keeper Robert Green had to punch clear a Jarvis corner and Marcus Hahnemann had his first real taste of the action as he fielded a low drive from Scott Parker. Julien Faubert cut into the box after a surging run down the right but his final shot lacked accuracy and was well wide of the far post. Play was swinging from end to end and after another dangerous cross from Jarvis had been hooked clear, a driven centre from Faubert was deflected behind for a corner that came to nothing. Green just beat Jarvis in a race for Doyle's through ball, but the keeper was beaten in the 28th minute as Wolves moved into a deserved lead. Tomkins' attempted back pass to Green was intercepted by Doyle who drilled a low shot that went in off the inside of the far post. Seconds after the game restarted, Mancienne was shown the yellow card after a late challenge on Alessandro Diamanti. Hahnemann dived to save a Carlton Cole shot after Benni McCarthy had supplied a short pass on the edge of the box, and seconds later a low cross from Jarvis took a deflection before going behind off Matthew Upson. Wolves should have been awarded a 35th minute penalty after Radoslav Kovac had clattered into Dave Jones just inside The Hammers box. The referee had a clear view of the incident but waved play on - an unbelievable decision. A flowing Wolves move ended with a 25-yard drive from Jones that took a deflection as it flew narrowly wide. Wolves had been the dominant team in the opening half but luck was with them in the 45th minute as Parker's shot hit the inside of the far post. The ball rebounded behind Hahnemann and back to Parker who had continued his run. He rammed a cross back into the middle and Hahnemann saved on the line with Karl Henry completing the clearance.

Half-Time: West Ham 0 Wolves 1

The Hammers made a double switch at the start of the new half with Jonathan Spector and Junior Stanislas replacing Tomkins and Kovac respectively. Valon Behrami challenge on Jarvis resulted in a free-kick to the left of West Ham's area. Jarvis took the kick himself but the ball went safely to the far side off the top of Ronald Zubar's head. Zubar then went into the book for a trip on Behrami. McCarthy was well wide with a powerful header after Faubert had fired in a cross from the right, and Hahnemann had little difficulty in dealing with a long-range effort from Diamanti. Wolves went two up in the 58th minute as Zubar scored his first League goal of the campaign. He ran onto a diagonal ball from Jones and smashed a first time shot inside the far post. If the travelling supporters behind Green's goal were happy with Zubar's effort, they were positively delirious as Jarvis made it three just three minutes later. Again Jones was the architect supplying a pass that Jarvis sprinted onto, bypassing two defenders, before beating Green with a low shot from the 18-yard line. Doyle had to receive lengthy treatment after he had been caught on the back of the calf by Diamanti. Then both sides made changes - Guillermo Franco replacing McCarthy and, for Wolves, Ward went on for Jarvis. In the 77th minute it took a superb save from Hahnemann to keep out a rising drive from Franco who had run into the area and stepped inside his marker. Wolves made two changes in the final ten minutes with Greg Halford taking the place of Zubar and Guedioura for Mancienne. In between the substitutions Hahnemann made another fine save - this time from Diamanti who let fly from 30-yards and in stoppage time the winger over narrowly wide although Hahnamann had his post covered. With seconds remaining Franco grabbed a consolation goal when he beat the offside trap and lobbed the ball over Hahnemann after Behrami had threaded the ball through.

AS it happened

0: Teams are out and ready to go. Great atmosphere at Upton Park.

2: Early attack for Wolves but Jarvis's cross is comfortably cleared by Tomkins.

3: Powerful run by Parker ended when Berra gets in a touch inside the Wolves area.

8: Poor Kevin Foley just seems to love the woodwork. Doyle flicks on Hahnemann's goal kick to send Foley away and from an acute angle he produces a superb half volley which agonisingly bounces off the underside of the bar.

9: Wolves now win a corner. Faubert down injured for West Ham.

10: Jarvis swings in a good corner which Green tips away. Faubert back on.

~

11: Mancienne dispossessed by Parker in the midfield and the West Ham man tries a shot which is straight at Hahnemann.

13: Jones is penalised and West Ham swing a free kick into the area which is then headed into the danger zone. But Zubar on hand to head away.

14: Hammers now on the attack as Faubert cuts inside past Elokobi but drags his shot wide of the target.

17: Some patient Wolves passing breaks down and West Ham launch an incisive break which finishes with Elokobi heading Diamanti's deep cross behind.

20: Good ball from McCarthy sends Cole away doen the inside left channel but Berra does well to nudge him wide and then block his shot.

22: Jarvis with some more good work down the left but Upson once again on hand with the clearance.

~

25: Henry gets a talking-to from referee Dowd after conceding a free kick but no card.

28: GOAL: DOYLE 0-1. Mistake by the West Ham defence and no mistake from Doyle to put Wolves in front. Tomkins turns and appears to want to pass back to Green but the ball slides under his foot to set Doyle free. The striker still has a great deal to do but marches into the area and produces a cool left foot finish into the corner.

29: Mancienne the first player into the book for a challenge on Diamanti.

31: West Ham try and hit back with a looping header from a corner from Upson but Hahnemann gathers.

32: Hammers on the attack again. Neat play from McCarthy before a sidefooted effort from Cole straight at Hahnemann.

33: Decent spell of Wolves possession brings another corner after a sliced clearance following Jarvis's cross.

35: Oh dear. Looks like a nailed-on penalty as Kovac piles into the back of Jones inside the area. But nothing given.

37: Some superb football from Wolves finishes with Jones's shot being deflected wide. Boos from the West Ham fans.

42: Doyle chips over the defence for Jarvis to get going down the left. Offside flag goes up. Didn't look like it.

45: 30 seconds before the break and so close to a West Ham equaliser. Parker's shot comes back off the inside of the post. He picks the ball up again and his shot from the narrowest of angles is parried by Hahnemann right on the line and Elokobi clears. West Ham picking up some momentum before the break. Maybe that was Wolves' luck from the failed penalty appeal!

45: One minute added time to follow.

HALF TIME: WEST HAM 0-1 WOLVES

45: Fans were entertained by the Hammerettes at half time.

45: Two changes for West Ham, Spector and Stanislas for Kovac and Tomkins. Meanwhile check out this picture of the Jones' penalty appeal.

46: Anyway. Back underway.

48: Always going to be a yellow card as Zubar loses the ball to Behrami and then brings him down.

51: First sight of goal of the half. Faubert's cross met by Cole but his header is over. Crowd tonight is 33, 988.

54: Diamanti finds some space for the Hammers and hits a low daisycutter which could have caused problems but Hahnemann takes it cleanly.

55: West Ham already looking brighter and crosses from Parker and Diamanti cause one or two problems. And then Cole on the end of another Diamanti centre but it's a looping header which Hahnemann catches.

58: GOAL: ZUBAR 0-2. Wolves extend their lead - and what a goal it is. Jones patient in midfield and then threads a superb ball into the path of Zubar down the right who doesn't break stride before despatching a fierce low drive into the bottom corner.

61: GOAL: JARVIS 0-3. Another superb finish makes it 3-0. Another sublime pass from Jones sends Jarvis in down the middle and the winger makes no mistake with a drilled effort into the bottom corner.

65: Doyle down injured after a poor Diamanti challenge. Replay shows he raked the back of Doyle's calf.

66: Jarvis sends in the free kick and it glances off a West Ham head for a corner. Doyle back on.

71: A change for either side. Ward on for Jarvis for Wolves. Franco on for McCarthy for the Hammers.

74: Berra does well to clear a cross but it's straight at Franco. His shot however is off target. Rain now lashing down at Upton Park.

75: Cole breaks away down the left but Berra across with another fine challenge and gets the ricochet for a goal kick.

78: Hammers so close to a goal. Great work from Franco inside the penalty area tees up a clear shot on goal but Hahnemann makes an excellent save from close range.

78: Corner cleared but the ball comes back in and Franco shoots over.

81: Change for Wolves as Halford comes on for Zubar. The defender, already booked, also took a kick in the game at Aston Villa on Saturday.

84: West Ham still having one or two moments and Hahnemann comes to punch a corner clear. Cole then gets his head to a cross but it's wide.

86: Diamanti now tests Hahnemann with a decent left foot drive but the Wolves keeper claws it away.

87: Final change for Wolves, Guedioura on for Mancienne who, having already been booked, had just conceded another foul.

90: Four minutes added time to follow.

90+1: Diamanti runs across the area but fires wide.

90+2: Jones off the field with what looks a nasty cut to the head. Wolves down to ten men.

90+3: Wolves still want that clean sheet. Berra blocks a Behrami shot.

90+3: GOAL: FRANCO 1-3. Wolves don't get the clean sheet as Franco beats the offside trap and chips Hahnemann.

90+4: Jones back on the pitch.

FULL TIME: WEST HAM 1-3 WOLVES

Well the real villains were the linesmen who allowed two Carew offside goals. A torrid 20 minutes before Wolves really got into the game. Then a couple of feints and Craddock popped up to pick up an awful shot from Zubar and slam it home - and Villa lost control completely. Young Milner and others playing for World Cup places found they couldn't get the better of firm defending from Berra, Zubar and Wardy - although Mick had the sense to let George Elokobi handle Young in the second half - and Young soon went to the other side of the pitch. Villa should have put it away in the first twenty but ended up being lucky to scrape a point - thanking the linesmen for two offside goals by Carew. Even Martin O'Neill was too embarrassed to comment.

Aston Villa 2 (Carew 16, 82) Wolves 2 (Craddock 23, Milner-og 38)

Wolves took an invaluable point from their trip to Aston Villa and it could have been all three as they came from behind with Jody Craddock and an own goal from James Milner cancelling out John Carew's opener. Carew, however, struck again eight minutes from time to give his side a share of the spoils. The Molineux side, once again unchanged, kicked-off attacking the Holte End but it was Villa that enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges and Carew was close with a shot on the turn that was narrowly wide of the far post and just in front of Stephen Warnock. A dangerous cross from Stewart Downing was hacked clear by Craddock before the first corner of the game went Wolves way, Adlene Guedioura firing wide from 20-yards after Matt Jarvis had played the flag-kick back to him. The home support were baying for a penalty after Karl Henry's tackle on Carew, who only had Marcus Hahnemann to beat, but the Wolves' skipper's challenge was perfectly timed. Villa took the lead with 16 minutes gone as Carew nonchalantly turned home Ashley Young's low cross to leave Hahnemann with no chance. Henry was high and wide with a a long-range effort and a Jarvis cross-shot was deflected behind for an unproductive corner as Wolves looked to hit back. And, midway through the half, an equaliser did arrive after Stiliyan Petrov had fouled Kevin Doyle inside the Villa half. The Bulgarian was booked before Dave Jones lifted the free-kick into the area where Ronald Zubar got a touch with the ball falling invitingly in front of Craddock who netted with a left-foot drive. Doyle was too high with an overhead kick after Jones had helped on Kevin Foley's centre. But there was more success for Mick McCarthy's men in the 38th minute as they took the lead courtesy of a Milner own goal.Doyle found Jones who ran into the home area before laying the ball off to Jarvis whose low cross was turned into the net by Milner in front of a stunned Holte End. Downing bounced a header over the bar following a cross from Young, and then Guediuora went into the book for a late challenge on Petrov. In stoppage time Carlos Cuellar drove over the bar from the edge of the area.

Half-Time: Villa 1 Wolves 2

George Elokobi was an interval replacement for Guedioura and he slotted in at left-back with Stephen Ward pushing up into the left of midfield. Foley won a corner off James Collins shortly after the restart. Jarvis's kick was cleared and when Villa won a corner of their own in the 51st minute, Young lifted the ball across and Richard Dunne powered a header into the side netting. Jarvis was penalised for a challenge on Young just to the left of the Wolves' area. The Villa man took the free-kick himself but his curling effort landed on the roof of the net. The home side were piling on the pressure and Hahnemann was well positioned to take a Carew header after Milner had supplied the centre. Michael Mancienne was a 64th minute replacement for Wolves who had a brief moment's respite from the pressure when Doyle sprinted down the left and cut inside, but Brad Friedel cut out his low cross. Yet another cross from Young resulted in a scramble in front of Hahnemann's goal. Emile Heskey got a touch but Henry managed to clear from a congested six-yard box. Villa sent on Marc Albrighton for Dunne and, after Zubar had been shown the yellow card for tripping Young, and Jarvis had curled a shot into Friedel's midriff, they replaced Downing with Steve Sidwell. Carew headed a Young cross over the bar but he scored his second goal of the game in the 82nd minute to level matters. He headed a long clearance from defence on to Heskey who teed the ball up for Sidwell. His shot looked to be heading for the net anyway but Carew, looking suspiciously offside, got the final touch. The Wolves players didn't let their heads drop and there was a chance of a late winner when Warnock's header looked to be falling short of Friedel but the keeper just beat Doyle to the ball.

As it happened on www.wolves.co.uk

0: Teams now out and Wolves in the huddle. Referee today is Mark Clattenburg.

0: Underway. And now the rain coming down strongly.

4: First real chance to Villa and it's a good one. Carew takes the ball in the box and takes a touch before firing across goal. It beats Hahnemann and just beats the far post and also Warnock who was sliding in having got forward.

7: Conditions brightened up a bit and the rain seems to have stopped.

8: Another opening for Villa as first Milner tries to flick through for Carew and then Downing gets to the byline and pulls it back but the ball breaks for Zubar to clear.

9: Corner for Wolves after Cuellar challenges Jarvis. Jarvis plays it back to the edge of the box for Guedioura who controls before shooting. Would have gone wide and still does even after a slight nick off Zubar.

10: Villa back on the attack with Young on the right. Drills in a low shot which Henry blocks.

10: And now a great tackle by Henry on Milner who was running through. Crowd baying for a penalty but it was a perfect challenge.

11: Wolves win a corner as the pace steps up. Jarvis run and cross is put over his own bar by Dunne.

12: Corner comes in to the back post but Berra at full stretch can't direct it goalwards.

14: Corner for Villa is cleared but they keep up the pressure. Carew gets his head to Warnock's throw but Hahnemann comes out to claim.

15: Young now down the left but his cross also cleaned up by Hahnemann.

16: Wolves on the break with Doyle and he pulls it back but Guedioura hasn't been able to maintain his run. Jones picks up the loose ball but Wolves unable to produce anything.

16: GOAL: CAREW 1-0. And Villa take full advantage to open the scoring. Young goes past Zubar on the left and sends in low cross which Carew converts from close range at the back post.

18: Wolves try and mount an immediate response but Henry fires well over from distance.

18: Young looking a real threat and sends in another dangerous cross but Hahnemann gathers well.

21: Wolves show good patience at the back in building a move and Jones then finds Jarvis on the left. His driven cross takes a deflection to lead to another corner.

22: Jones swings in the corner to the back post but referee Clattenburg spots an infringement. Free kick to Villa.

23: Doyle taken down by Petrov in midfield and gets gingerly to his feet. Yellow card for the Villa skipper.

23: GOAL: CRADDOCK 1-1. Jones swings in the free kick and it appears to strike Zubar before dropping back for Craddock who makes no mistake with a clinical finish. Five for the season for Craddock who is going to be offered a new contract as revealed this week.

~

27: Another glimmer of a chance for Wolves. Jones heads into the danger zone and Doyle tries an overhead kick over the bar.

~

28: Warnock sends a free kick forward and Carew flicks on but it's watched by Hahnemann as it drifts wide.

33: Game has gone quiet but it's Young who once again ups the tempo with a great cross from the right. Zubar does well to put behind at the far post.

34: Berra deals well with Carew at corner. Zubar down injured after shepherding a ball out under pressure from Petrov. Tangle of legs at the end appears to have injured Zubar. He's able to come back on after treatment.

38: GOAL: MILNER OG 1-2. And Wolves now take the lead. Great work from Jones in going past a defender and finding Jarvis. Cross comes in and with Jones in attendance Milner slides in and puts it in his own net.

~

41: Villa mighty close to an equaliser. Young crosses to the back post where Downing is in space but he heads down into the ground and over the bar.

42: Guedioura into the book for a foul on Petrov. And then Petrov fouls Doyle. Petrov is already on yellow and gets what will probably be a final talking-to from Clattenburg.

45: Two minutes added time to follow.

45+1: Berra slices an attempted clearance. Corner to Villa.

45+2: Ball drops to Cuellar on the edge of the area but his half volley is over.

HALF TIME: VILLA 1-2 WOLVES

46: Back underway with one change for Wolves. Elokobi on for Guedioura. Elokobi to left back, Ward up to left midfield, Jarvis over to the right and Foley more central.

51: Young takes a Villa corner towards the back post and Dunne powers in but his header is into the side netting.

53: Villa have understandably started the half strongly and Young sends in another dipping free kick from out wide which finishes up on the roof of the net.

56: Hahnemann comes to collect after an exquisite piece of control from Young. All Villa at the moment.

58: And another corner as the claret and blue onslaught continues. Heskey meets Downing's delivery at the near post and flicks on but just out of reach of Carew.

59: Corner from the opposite flank sees Hahnemann punch clear.

~

60: Milner free kick, Dunne heads across the area and Henry clears. Villa keep up the pressure and Milner swings another ball into the back post from where Dunne heads wide.

62: Another Villa cross and it's Young again. Great clearing header from Elokobi.

62: Young optimistically looking for a penalty after trying to wriggle past Jarvis. Nothing doing.

63: Hahnemann called into action but his positioning is perfect as he grasps Carew's header from Milner's cross.

64: Second change for Wolves with Mancienne on for Ward. Jarvis back to the left, Foley to the right and Jones advancing in support of Doyle.

66: Carew miskicks but the ball almost drops to Milner and it needs a good challenge by Mancienne to mop up the danger.

67: Collins chops down Doyle but Clattenburg is happy enough with a talking-to rather than any cards.

68: Brief respite for Wolves with the free kick. Jones sends it in but good clearing header from Collins and Cuellar then completes the job.

69: Another attack for Wolves with Jones and Jarvis involved before Doyle's centre from the left is easily claimed by Friedel.

70: How did that stay out? Young again with the cross. Heskey up for the header and the ball bounces down. Hahnemann gets a touch and Henry nicks it away from Heskey as he was preparing to convert.

71: Corner causes more problems but Wolves manfully heading everything away.

~

72: Change for Villa with Albrighton on for Dunne.

74: Great break from Doyle for Wolves but his eventual pullback is blocked by Collins.

75: Zubar into the book for a foul on Young. Crowd today is 37, 562.

76: Good little run from Jarvis cutting in from the left but his low drive is straight into Friedel's midriff.

77: Another change for Villa, Downing on for Sidwell.

80: Yet another cross from Young and a back header from Carew but it's just over.

81: Milner finds some space but his shot is dragged wide.

82: Mancienne advances from distance to try his luck but his low shot is straight at Friedel.

82: GOAL: CAREW 2-2. Cruel luck for Wolves as Carew equalises. He looks offside. Carew had flicked the ball on and Heskey held it up for Sidwell whose low shot was touched in by the Villa striker.

84: Cross comes in from Milner and Carew heads over.

88: Warnock undercooks a backpass and Friedel only just clears before Doyle arrives.

89: Final change for Wolves with Iwelumo on for Jarvis.

89: And now Cuellar almost gets too much on a back header but Friedel jumps to collect.

90: Four minutes added time.

90+1: Elokobi's free kick is flicked into the danger zone by Berra but Villa manage to clear.

90+2: Doyle cuts in and drives a cross in which takes a Villa touch and out for a throw-in.

90+3: Jones swings a corner in but Friedel touches it away.

90+4: Long ball through the middle but Hahnemann out to collect comfortably.

FULL TIME: VILLA 2-2 WOLVES

Sat 13th March Burnley 1 Wolves 2  KO 3pm

At last , the lucky breaks - really cruel on the Clarets, but although Wolves worked hard again it was only a couple of incidents going our way that enabled us to pull 3 points clear of Burnley now in 18th place. Look at the stats. Yet again the opposition goal came from a “clearance” from Craddock.  Wigan and West Ham remain in catching distance so the rescheduled away tie at Upton Park could will be crucial.

Burnley 1 (Thompson 73)Wolves 2 (Jarvis 26, Carlisle-OG 47)

Wolves put a little bit of daylight between themselves and Burnley at the bottom end of the Premier League by edging a tight contest at Turf Moor to record their third away victory of the season

Burnley kicked-off attacking the Fishwick Stand end of the ground that housed 2,300 travelling fans, and inside the opening minute Martin Paterson hooked a shot wide from close range. Marcus Hahnemann then turned a 20-yard drive from Chris Eagles behind before confidently taking a long-range effort from home skipper, Graham Alexander. Wolves soon settled and after Matt Jarvis had over-hit a cross from the left, Brian Jensen saved a header from Dave Jones after Kevin Foley had supplied the centre. Jensen then had to race from his area in an attempt to clear but he was beaten to the ball by Kevin Doyle. The striker was barged into by the Danish keeper who, after receiving treatment, was shown the yellow card. Dave Jones curled the free-kick wide of the far post. Andre Bikey turned a driven cross from Jarvis behind for an unproductive corner and, midway through the half, Hahnemann had to touch over a Danny Fox free-kick following Adlene Guedioura's late challenge on Eagles 25-yards out from the Wolves goal. A mistake by Tyrone Mears led to Wanderers taking a 26th minute lead. The defender tried to head Doyle's flick on back to Jensen but Jarvis spotted the opportunity and intercepted touching the ball past the keeper before running behind him and tucking the ball over the line from point-blank range. Doyle was well wide with a shot on the turn before Fox, who appeared to have suffered a back injury, was replaced by Stephen Jordan. The Clarets were piling on the pressure as the half drew to a close and Clarke Carlisle nodded Mears' free-kick on to David Nugent who turned to hit a shot that bounced and hit the top of the bar on its way behind. Guedioura was booked after tripping Eagles and, in stoppage time, Bikey's glancing header from Eagles' corner was yards wide of the mark.

Half-Time: Burnley 0 Wolves 1

Wolves made the perfect start to the new half increasing their advantage as the game moved into the 47th minute. Jarvis darted into the box and pulled the ball back for Ronald Zubar who helped it on into the path of Guedioura. He let fly from 20-yards and the ball, which was going wide, hit Carlisle and went in beyond Jensen's dive. There were loud home appeals for a penalty when Peterson drove a cross against Christophe Berra. The ball appeared to hit the Scottish defender in the stomach rather than on his hand or arm. Jarvis was unlucky to be flagged offside when he broke clear on the left and raced unhindered towards Jensen's goal. Replays later showed he was onside when he took the ball. Burnley boss Brian Laws incurred the wrath of the home support when he made a double switch in the 54th minute with Steven Thompson and Robbie Blake coming on for Bikey and Blake. Doyle was inches away from a third Wolves goal after he had run onto a Karl Henry through ball and hit an angled shot that beat Jensen and just went wide of the far post. Almost immediately, Michael Mancienne became Wolves' first substitute when he went on in place of Guedioura. Burnley were denied by the woodwork for a second time when Blake beat Zubar as he ran into the box and fired in a low cross that hit the foot of the near post and bounced clear.

Wolves made a second change with Andy Keogh taking the place of Jones just before Burnley pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute. Mears' cross was headed out by Jody Craddock but only as far as Alexander whose bouncing shot was turned into the net by Thompson. Mancienne, for a late challenge on Steven Elliott, and Berra for a foul on Nugent, were both booked as Burnley went in search of an equalizer which nearly arrived in the 79th minute when Alexander's rising drive wasn't too far over. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was the final substitute for the visitors when he replaced Jarvis in the 79th minute. Mancienne went on a surging run through the heart of the Clarets defence and after taking a return pass from Kevin Foley he hit a stinging shot that Jensen just managed to touch around the post. Keogh went into the book, apparently for time wasting whilst about to take a corner, and Doyle was forced wide by Carlisle when he looked on for a shot at goal. In stoppage time, of which there were four minutes, Hahnemann parried a shot from Blake with Craddock completing the clearance.

Burnley: Jensen, Alexander (capt), Carlisle, Paterson, Mears, Cort, Bikey (Blake 54), Nugent, Elliott (Thompson 54), Eagles, Fox (Jordan 40). Unused subs: Duff, Weaver, Edgar, Rodriguez. Booking: Jensen (12 - foul).

Wolves: Hahnemann, Zubar, Ward, Guedioura (Mancienne 59), Craddock, Berra, Foley, Henry (capt), Doyle, Jones (Keogh 70), Jarvis (Ebanks-Blake 79). Unused subs: Hennessey, Elokobi, Vokes, Milkijaš. Bookings: Guedioura (45 - foul), Mancienne (74 - foul), Berra (76 - foul), Keogh (84 - time-wasting).

0: Same again for Wolves as boss ~Mick McCarthy names unchanged team for fifth successive game Chilly afternoon in the North West but a lively pre-match atmosphere with the sellout following of 2,300 Wolves fans making themselves heard.

0: Teams walk out.

0: Handshakes completed and off and running.

1: First glimmer of a chance falls to Burnley after 50 seconds but Hahnemann is able to watch Paterson's shot drift wide.

2: Wind appears to be with Wolves in the early stages. And it's quite a strong one. Jarvis and Ward try and combine down the left but Burnley defence able to deal with it and the ball goes out for a goal kick.

3: Burnley attack with Bikey making his presence felt and finding Eagles on the left. He cuts inside with a low drive which could have been going wide but Hahnemann takes no chances and pushes the ball behind.

4: Corner comes in and referee Steve Bennett spots an infringement to award Wolves a free kick.

5: Burnley have started brighter. Craddock makes a couple of good tackles but the loose ball is picked up by Alexander who tries his luck from 25 yards, drawing Hahnemann into a decent save.

9: Wolves first decent opening. Good forward break by Foley on the left who turns and crosses for Jones whose header is gathered cleanly by Jensen.

~

10: Wolves win a corner via Doyle and it's flicked on at the front post but no one at the back to capitalise and Burnley clear their lines.

12: First controversy of the game. Guedioura knocks a ball up the line and Jensen comes charging out of his goal. Doyle touches it past him out wide and is upended by the big keeper who then stays down for treatment. Referee Bennett is waiting however, to brandish a yellow card. Right decision as Doyle was so far wide.

~

14: Jones puts in an inswinging free kick towards the back post but neither Guedioura nor Ward can reach it.

17: Eagles gets to the byline well for Burnley but his pullback is intercepted by Henry and Wolves clear.

17: Wolves break quickly and Jarvis is in down the right. Now his cross is knocked behind by Bikey for a corner.

18: Jones appears to actually kick the corner flag while striking the ball and the low delivery is cleared.

18: Burnley now on the break and Paterson's low centre headed behind by Craddock.

19: Flag kick comes in and Cort appears to be being held back. Any penalty appeal not listened to by referee Steve Bennett.

20: Burnley keep up the pressure and win a free kick on the right. Fox puts in it but straight at Ward and Jones completes the clearance.

22: A Burnley corner is cleared before the hosts win another free kick as Guedioura clips Eagles having been outwitted by the midfielder.

23: Fox pings the free kick in and Hahnemann makes the save, tipping over the bar.

26: GOAL: JARVIS 0-1. Wolves break the deadlock thanks in part to a defensive error. Jones helps the ball on towards Jarvis but Mears is in position. The defender attempts to head back to Jensen but there's not enough on the ball and the pace of Jarvis allows him to nip in and touch it past Jensen. All the time in the world then for Jarvis to run on and tap into the empty net.

~

30: Doyle turns on the edge of the box and has a shot but Jensen watches it comfortably past the post.

33: Doyle fouls Fox in the midfield area. Mears sends the free kick forward and Zubar heads back towards his goal but Hahnemann gathers.

39: Fox goes down for treatment and doesn't look as if he'll be able to continue.

40: Jordan off the bench to replace Fox.

41: Swift Burnley break sees Bikey trying to surge into the area but Zubar stands tall to make the block.

44: So close to a Burnley equaliser. Carlisle heads a free kick into the danger zone and Nugent shrugs aside Berra to shoot. It goes into the ground and bounces up to strike the top of the bar.

45: Second yellow card of the game and first for Wolves as Guedioura penalised for a foul on Eagles.

45: Three minutes added time to follow.

45+1: Eagles sends the free kick in and Wolves play their offside trap but it doesn't matter as it's right across goal.

45+2: Fox appears to have been in considerable discomfort receiving further treatment in the Burnley dugout and is now stretchered off around the pitch to warm applause from all sides

45+2: Burnley finishing the half strongly. Bikey gets his head on the corner but can't direct it towards goal and it drifts wide of the target.

HALF TIME: BURNLEY 0-1 WOLVES

46: Back off and running.

47: GOAL: CARLISLE OG. Wolves make the perfect start to the second half. Win a corner which is only half cleared and Zubar finds Guedioura outside the box. The midfielder's shot is going wide but it takes a deflection off Carlisle to leave Jensen helpless and find the bottom corner.

~

49: Burnley try to mount an immediate response. Paterson breaks into the area and his cross hits Berra. Appeals for a penalty but replays show it struck the defender's stomach.

52: Jarvis flagged for offside as he looks to break onto Jones's incisive pass but it was nowhere near offside. Linesman got the wrong man!

54: "We shall not be moved" is the cry from the Wolves fans behind the goal. But Burnley have scored in every one of their home games this season and are pressing. Long way to go yet!

54: Elliott runs across goal and hits a left foot shot wide.

55: Double change for Burnley, Blake and Thompson on for Eagles and Bikey. It's fair to say Eagles' departure is not welcomed by the Burnley supporters.

56: Mears sends another free kick into the Wolves area and Zubar touches it back to Hahnemann.

57: Doyle's heels are clipped by Carlisle as he tries to break onto Henry's clearance. No booking.

58: Burnley on the attack and Guedioura nips in to smash the ball behind for a corner. Flag kick is met by Jordan but his header is easily taken by Hahnemann.

59: So close to a third for Wolves. Doyle sent away by Henry down the inside left and beats Jensen with a shot across goal but it's agonisingly wide of the far post.

60: Change for Wolves with Mancienne on for Guedioura.

65: Burnley hit the woodwork. Blake is always a tricky customer and turns outside Zubar before firing a shot in almost from the byline which bounces back off the outside of the post.

66: Burnley keep up the pressure and Cort swivels and shoots inside the area but it's wide.

69: Mancienne penalised for a challenge on Nugent at the same time as Craddock went in and won the ball. Free kick 30 yards out.

70: Blake tries his luck from the free kick but taken comfortably by Hahnemann.

70: Second change for Wolves, Keogh on for Jones.

71: Instructions going out as to how Wolves are going to play after that change. As things stand Keogh up there alongside Doyle with Jarvis and Foley the wide men albeit Foley operating quite deep.

73: THOMPSON 1-2. Game on now. Mears cross headed out by Craddock. Alexander mishits his shot but it flies up for Thompson to head past Hahnemann from close range.

74: Mancienne yellow carded for a challenge on Nugent when he seemed to get the ball but referee Bennett must have deemed he came in from behind. Crowd right behind Burnley now.

75: Blake sends free kick in and needs good header from Ward to clear but at expense of corner. That comes in and it's Blake again to the fore with a low shot saved by Hahnemann.

76: Bennett getting very card happy now and it's Berra into the book for an alleged pull back on Nugent.

77: All Burnley now and Elliott tries a shot from distance but doesn't catch it right and it goes through to Hahnemann.

78: And yet another Burnley attack finishes with Alexander firing over.

78: Final change for Wolves with Ebanks-Blake on for Jarvis. Keogh over to the left.

82: This is turning into agonising stuff. Blake appears set to get his head onto a long punt clear but Zubar nips in to cushion the ball back to Hahnemann.

83: Wolves finally ease the pressure with a decent attack. Mancienne sets his sights with a low shot from distance which Jensen turns around the post.

83: Keogh booked for time wasting at the corner although he argues he was re-placing the ball due to the wind. Comes to nothing.

84: Well worked Burnley move ends with Keogh blocking Nugent's effort at the expense of a corner.

85: Flag kick comes in and Cort heads over.

88: Good work from Ebanks-Blake as he sends Doyle away down the inside left. But Carlisle manages to shepherd him away from goal.

89: Ebanks-Blake away down the left but his low cross is taken by Jensen. Crowd announced is 21, 217.

90: Four minutes added time to come. Starting with a Burnley free kick in the middle of the pitch 40 yards out.

90+1: Mears clips it in but Wolves play the offside trap and it runs through for a goal kick.

90+2: Powerful snapshot from Blake parried by Hahnemann but he can't get on the rebound and Craddock clears.

90+3: Corner for Burnley and Jensen has come up. Hahnemann appeared to be fouled from it but nothing doing. Elliott clips the ball back in but through to Hahnemann.

90+4: Ebanks-Blake shields the ball in the corner and Wolves then win a corner. Seconds counting down.

Sat 6th March Wolves 0 Man Utd 1 (Scholes)KO 17:30pm Live on ESPN

Incredibly it was Jody Craddock who again gave the ball away to a top club - enabling Paul Scholes to score his 100th Premiership goal - and ManU to nick all the points. While Sam Vokes was given one + three minutes to turn the match around and had two attempts, on of which was a bad miss - but how can you expect someone who's not playing to come on cold and do that (unless the name's Kevin Phillips?). Yet another ref who favours players in red, but nothing like as bad as two awful linesmen. Apart from this defensive disaster Wolves had contained ManU well playing for a 0-0 but Edwin van der Sar wasn't at all disurbed.

On a brighter note, though, Dean’s son James was one of the mascots and is pictured here shaking Nani’s hand and was also pictured with his favourite Wolf, Andy Keogh.James Perkins_W1429_234s

Wolves 0 Manchester United 1 (Scholes 72)

It was a case of the same old story at Molineux as Wolves slipped to an undeserved and narrow defeat against a Manchester United side that moved back to the top of the table courtesy of a 72nd minute goal from Paul Scholes. In stoppage time substitute Sam Vokes missed a great chance of giving Wolves a share of the spoils which was the very least Mick McCarthy's battling players deserved.

Wolves, who were again unchanged, kicked-off attacking the South Bank end against the reigning Premier League Champions. Wanderers were a yard away from opening their account in the sixth minute thanks to the persistence of Kevin Doyle who went onJames Perkins_IMG_3330s a run fro m hal fwa y an d ap pe are d to be tripped as he passed wide to Matt Jarvis. But the striker regained his feet and was in position to take a return pass and hit a shot that ran out past the far post. Two minutes later Antonio Valencia took a pass on the United right and cut in before unleashing a shot that curled wide although Marcus Hahnemann looked to have the ball covered. On the quarter-hour mark one time Molineux loanee Darron Gibson stabbed the ball wide after Dimitar Berbatov had helped on Nani's free-kick. The first corner of the half went Wolves' way but after Jarvis's kick was headed out, Karl Henry's shot was blocked. Nani was lucky to escape a booking when he caught Ronald Zubar in the face with a high challenge, before Hahnemann took a bouncing effort from Gibson who had connected with Berbatov's cross. Gibson wasn't far off with a shot on the turn from the edge of the box, and Hahnemann saved easily from Michael Carrick whose low shot lacked power. The deadlock was almost broken in the 32nd minute after Doyle fed Jarvis on the left. The winger pulled the ball back into the path of Dave Jones but as he shot at goal Carrick got in a challenge that took the sting out of the effort allowing Edwin Van Der Sar to save. Four minutes later there was great chance for Stephen Ward but his header from Jarvis's centre flew straight to Van Der Sar.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 United 0

Gary Neville was an interval replacement for Wes Brown for the visitors who started the new half strongly. Ward slipped over allowing Valencia to run into the box from the right. He pulled the ball back to Berbatov whose on target shot was blocked by Christophe Berra who threw himself in the way of the ball. Berbatov looked offside as he ran onto Carrick's over the top ball. But the flag stayed down and, fortunately for Wolves, the Bulgarian failed to control the ball from inside the six-yard box. Henry was wide from 20-yards and then United went close again after Gibson found Patrice Evra whose shot took a deflection off Jody Craddock forcing Hahnemann to save at Berbatov's feet On 57 minutes Jarvis laid the ball into the path of Kevin Foley but Scholes got across quickly to block. Nemanja Vidic was yellow carded after crudely halting Adlene Guedioura's run 25-yards out from Van Der Sar's goal. Jones's free-kick bounced to safety off the defensive wall. Craddock, for a foul on Nani, and Jones, for a late challenge on Carrick, were booked and then United sent Mame Diouf on in place of Gibson. Foley skied an effort when he took a swing at another cross from Jarvis. Doyle controlled the ball when it dropped but his shot took a deflection and then was cleared. United took the lead in the 72nd minute after Craddock deflected away a low cross from Nani. The ball went straight to Scholes who sidestepped a challenge from Craddock, who slipped, and fired inside the far post. Almost immediately, Nani was replaced by Ji-Sung Park. Van Der Sar then looked to have misjudged a curling effort from Jarvis - the Belgium keeper scrambling across his goal at the last minute as the ball went narrowly wide of the post.Diouf headed a Neville cross over the bar from a good position before Wolves made a double switch sending on Andy Keogh and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake for Ward and Guedioura respectively. Then, with a minute of normal time remaining, Vokes took the place of Jarvis. And in the four minute of stoppage time the young Welsh striker lifted the ball over the bar from eight-yards out after Zubar had prodded a Keogh pass into his path.

As it happened (on Wolves live action page)

0: Teams out and ready to go. Don Goodman has done a great job as pitchside host getting the crowd going. Game on!

0: Off and running. Both teams wearing black armbands in memory of Keith Alexander, who passed away earlier this week.

6: Quiet start and then the first opening falls to Wolves. Doyle breaks through midfield and finds Jarvis. The winger knocks it back into Doyle who doesn't catch the shot right which flies across goal.

8: And now United's first sighter. Former Wolves loanee Gibson finds Valencia on the right and he decides to go for goal, a fierce drive wide of the post which Hahnemann watches go wide.

10: Assistant referee dow by the South Bank already getting some stick after two early pro-United decisions.

11: United on the attack and Nani finds a bit of room but his long range drive is wide.

13: Guedioura does well to dispossess Berbatov and propel forward but Scholes gets back to cover and knocks the ball off the Wolves man for a goal kick.

14: Oh dear. Another 50-50 with Henry and Carrick pulling each other's shirts and the free kick goes to Manchester United. 35 yards out. ~Mick McCarthy in mock hysterics at the decision.

15: Nani's low free kick driven into the area, flicked on by Berbatov and Gibson slides in to put his effort wide.

16: And now widespread applause as Wolves are awarded a free kick!

16: Jones sends in a great delivery which flicks off a United head and out for a corner.

16: Corner headed out and Guedioura gets a good contact on his shot which is blocked by Berbatov.

18: Unbelievable decision from referee Walton. Referee Nani flies in face high with his foot to flatten Zubar. Free kick but no card. McCarthy and Connor enraged on the touchline.

20: United break and Gibson is found by Berbatov on the left and hits a shot into the ground which still forces Hahnemann into a save.

25: Great challenge from Guedioura sets Doyle away but the striker just runs it too far and is tackled.

25: Now United break and it's Gibson heavily involved, his cross-shot finishing up well wide.

30: Reasonable chance for United as the ball is worked to Carrick on the edge of the area. But the midfielder is at full stretch and can only direct the ball towards Hahnemann.

32: Great move from Wolves sparked by the irrepresible Doyle. Striker turns away from a challenge and then runs at the heart of the defence before feeding Jarvis. Jarvis plays it back in to Jones whose first time shot takes a deflection off Caddick and goes through to Van Der Sar.

33: At the other end Valencia breaks and fires in a low cross. Nani misses it at the near post and the angle is too acute for Gibson at the far who can only direct the ball across goal for Hahnemann to collect.

36: Another great Wolves move. Jarvis sends in a pinpoint cross and Ward, a boyhood Manchester United fan, has time to head towards goal but it's too close to Van Der Sar who gathers comfortably.

45: United have certainly started to shade the possession but without creating anything concrete as yet. One minute added time to follow.

HALF TIME: WOLVES 0-0 UNITED

46: Change for United with Neville on for Brown. Off and running again.

47: Wolves think they've got an early corner as Zubar knocks the ball off a United defender but the ball was already out. Goal kick.

48: First real chance falls to United. Valencia turns inside Ward and finds Berbatov whose shot is blocked well by Berra.

50: United have come out of the traps strongly and Berbatov is through after producing an expert piece of control from Carrick's pass. But the need to control a half ball gives Craddock time to come back and make a crucial challenge.

52: Henry running across the area and sends in a shot but it's well wide.

53: United so close. Evra runs into the area from Gibson pass and his effort is blocked by Craddock forcing Hahnemann into a save. Ball bounces back to Evra and it needs a challenge from a couple of Wolves defender to force it out for a corner. Corner is cleared out to Caddick who slices a difficult chance wide.

56: United doing a lot of the pressing now. Valencia sends in a cross from the right which is met with a flicked header from Nani which drifts narrowly wide.

57: But Wolves still showing what they can do on the attack as well. Jarvis finds Foley with a clever pass but his shot is blocked by Scholes.

58: Guedioura now running at the United defence before being hacked down by Vidic. Predictable yellow card following the rash challenge.

59: Every United player back for the free kick just outside the area but Jones's effort is blocked by the wall.

60: United win a corner but Craddock is booked. Seemingly for a late challenge on Nani earlier in the move but the replay shows he barely touched him. Sir Alex Ferguson out of the technical area to have a few words with the fourth official.

61: You wait 58 minutes for a card and then three come along in three. Jones the latest for a late challenge on Carrick.

62: Second change for United, Diouf on for Gibson.

64: Jarvis gets to the byline and crosses but Foley misses his kick at the back post. Wolves keep up the momentum and Doyle's effort is deflected.

65: Guedioura now down for treatment after challenge from Evra.

67: Another probing run from Jarvis down the left and his cross is blocked for a corner. It's easily cleared by Diouf however. Ferguson now on the edge of his technical area having a few words with referee Walton.

70: Jarvis scuttles across the edge of the area but is off balance as he shoots and it's sliced high and wide.

73: GOAL: SCHOLES 0-1. United break the deadlock. Nani's cross is cleared and Scholes is coolness personified as he sidesteps a couple of challenges to create the space to fire low past Hahnemann.

74: Substitution immediately afterwards as Park comes on for Nani.

75: Jarvis steps inside and tries to dink in a cross. Doesn't catch it how he'd like but the curl brings the ball back in towards goal and has Van Der Sar scampering across to make sure it goes wide.

77: United close to an immediate second. Park plays a neat one-two with Berbatov which leaves him through but on the right hand side of goal and his attempted pullback is blocked by Berra.

78: Another glorious United chance. Neville swings in a cross to the back post where Diouf is unmarked but he gets his header all wrong and it's over.

78: Crowd today is 28, 883.

81: Wolves fail to make the most of a bit of possession and United break leaving Henry as the last man back. Diouf stretches his legs but the skipper is across with a decent challenge which helps put pressure on and the shot is across goal and wide.

83: Valencia driving down the right again and his low cross almost falls to Diouf but there's a Wolves touch in there and it goes back to Hahnemann.

83: Park now breaks on the other flank and tries an audacious half volley which isn't too far away.

84: Double change for Wolves. Keogh and Ebanks-Blake for Ward and Guedioura. Foley back to left back in a 4-4-2 with Jarvis and Keogh either side of Doyle and Ebanks-Blake.

86: Wolves trying in vain for an equaliser with Doyle shooting from outside of the box but he doesn't get the right connection on it and it's wide.

89: Final change for Wolves, Vokes on for a tired-looking Jarvis. Doyle to wide right, Vokes up top with Ebanks-Blake.

90: Four minites added time to follow.

90+1: Agony for Wolves. Zubar battles away inside the area and the ball breaks to Vokes but bounces up at just the wrong time and he hammers it over the bar. There wasn't a flag and replay shows a United defender was playing Vokes onside.

90+2: Vokes now on the end of a Keogh cross which hangs in the air. Needs to get all the power on the header and does so but it's wide.

FULL TIME: WOLVES 0-1 UNITED
