Saturday 26 February Wolves 4 (Jarvis 2, O'Hara 54, Ebanks-Blake 78, 90) Blackpool 0 ko 3pm
A man-of -the-match performance from Spurs loanee Jamie O’Hara took Wolves out of the bottom three for 48 hours in front of the biggest crowd at the modified Moli and our biggest Prem win. The victory was made much easier by Blackpool’s Charlie Adam getting his 10th yellow against Spurs, and made even easier when DJ Campbell first elbowed and then struck Stears in the face - well done for not retaliating. The victory was dedicated to Dean Richards who died at 36 ealier in the day. Robbie Dennison was unable to carry out Beacon’s commentary as he was too upse t. The South Bank kept the tribute going all match, but a formal one is planned in advance of the Spurs match next Sunday.
Wolves romped to their biggest ever Premier League victory beating a Blackpool side reduced to ten men for half the game by 4-0 to move out of the bottom three. There were two changes in midfield for the visit of The Seasiders. Nenad Milijaš and Kevin Foley dropped down to the bench and in came Dave Edwards and Adam Hammill. Wolves kicked-off attacking the South Bank end and they were ahead after just two minutes. A superb ball down the line from Ronald Zubar found Edwards who cut inside and fed Adam Hammill. He spotted Matt Jarvis unmarked to his left and laid off the perfect ball for his fellow winger to finish the job with a curled, angled shot. Wolves continued to attack and a pair of corners from Jarvis were cleared before two flag kicks from Ludovic Sylvestre were dealt with by the home defence. Jarvis was in the thick of things again with a burst of pace that took him past is marker. He delivered a low cross that had Kevin Doyle's name written on it but a defender just managed to toe end the ball away. A centre from David Vaughan drifted dangerously across the face of Wayne Hennessey's goal but Wolves were soon back on the front foot and it took a tremendous save from Richard Kingson to keep out Edwards' volle y after Jamie O'Hara had supplied the cross. Doyle was barged twice in the centre circle but, with typical determination,he regained his balance and fed Jarvis whose centre was headed behind by Keith Southern. Chants of Deano, Deano, echoed around the ground as fans remembered former defender Dean Richards who had passed away earlier in the day. In the 23rd minute Hammill was inches away from his first goal for the club. Zubar's probing run took him into the visitors box. He slipped a short pass to Hammill whose first shot was blocked with his second attempt skimming the roof of the net after the ball had rebounded to him. A Zubar volley was deflected behind by Ian Evatt and from O'Hara's corner George Elokobi powered home a header. But the crowd's cheers were stifled when they realised the referee had ruled the goal out for a foul on the keeper. Ian Holloway made a switch in the 29th minute when he sent striker Luke Varne y on in place of Sergei Kornilenko and seven minutes later he fired wide of the near post as Richard Stearman challenged. Hammill limped off to be replaced by Foley before the game erupted briefly as DJ Campbell was sent off two minutes before the break for putting two hands into Stearman's face having already led with his arm in an aerial challenge.
Half-Time: Wolves 1 Blackpool 0
After the restart a foul by Vaughan on Karl Henry gave Wolves a free-kick just outside the Blackpool area, but O'Hara's kick was headed clear. Then Kingson pulled off another fine save, this time from Foley, who shot for goal from the edge of the area after Jarvis's corner had been headed out. O'Hara drove the ball straight into the arms of Kingman but, just a minute later, the on loan midfielder made no mistake. He picked the ball up just outside the centre circle and ran on before unleashing a shot that flew into the bottom corner. Almost immediately Sylvan Ebanks-Blake went on in place of Zubar with Foley dropping to full-back. A terrific run by Stearman took him from one area to the other before he passed to O'Hare whose low cross was just too far in front of Foley. Stephen Ward was the last of Wolves' three substitutions when he took the place of Edwards for final quarter of the game. The home side were putting Blackpool to the sword and after Kingman had cut out Foley's cross as Ebanks-Blake ran in, O'Hara volleyed a yard wide of the far post. But the pressure paid off in the 78th minute as Ebanks-Blake tucked away D oyle's low cross after good work from Henry. Elokobi was booked for a late challenge on substitute Brett Ormerod, and seconds later Alex Baptiste suffered a similar punishment after he had ploughed into Foley. Doyle headed narrowly wide at the far post after a cross from Jarvis, and then the Irish striker saw his angled shot deflected behind. Jarvis was too high with a drive from the edge of the area, but in the final minute Ebanks-Blake wrapped things up after he had taken a pass from Ward and shot across Kingson into the far side of the net.

Sunday 22nd February WBA 1 v Wolves 1 (match 18 rescheduled) (noon ko)
Wayne drops it but the strikers fail again. Jamie O'Hara continued his excellent contribution with a great goal which should have won the match but the other strikers particularly Jarvo and Doyler failed again to put away the chances that would have sealed victory at the Poorthorns. Instead, with only 2 minutes of extra time to go Wayne dropped the ball, and Vela equalised.
A goal from Albion substitute Carlos Vela, two minutes into stoppage time, meant that Wolves had to be satisfied with a point after Jamie O'Hara's first goal for the club looked like yielding the maximum reward. The only change to the Wolves starting line-up saw Kevin Foley returning in right midfield in place of Adam Hammill who was named as a substitute. Albion kicked-off attacking the Birmingham Road end but it was the visitors that posed the first threats with O'Hara's probing run ending with a shot that was cleared by Jonas Olsson, and George Elokobi's centre being hooked away. Wayne Hennessey failed to collect a Nicky Shorey cross cleanly but Peter Odemwingie put the ball behind as he attempted to return it into the six-yard box. Hennessey had to run from his area to clear from Odemwingie who was chasing down a long through ball and when play switched to the opposite end Karl Henry blasted the ball high over the bar after Olsson had headed out a Matt Jarvis cross. In the 13th minute O'Hara met another Jarvis centre but his header lacked power and direction as it drifted wide. Hennessey made a good save from an Olsson header following Chris Brunt's corner but the referee indicated a foul as he waved play on. Gabriel Tamas was two-yards wide with a header after another Brunt corner and then Christophe Berra's clearing header only just missed the far post as he and Paul Scharner went for a Shorey centre from the left. Marc-Antoine Fortune headed a Graham Dorrans cross over from close quarters although the offside flag had been raised, before a clever piece of work from Jarvis carved open the Albion defence. The winger's back heel rolled along the touchline and with the home players obviously thinking the ball was going out, Nenad Milijaš took possession and delivered a cross that was just too high for Kevin Doyle. But a Tamas foul on Doyle led to Wolves taking a 40th minute lead. With everyone expecting Milijaš to take a shot at goal, the Serb squared the ball to O'Hara who curled it into the roof of the net. A minute from the break, Doyle took the ball from the half-way line to the edge of the Baggies box before he lost out in a tackle with Olsson.
Half-Time: Albion 0 Wolves 1
After exchanging passes with Jarvis, O'Hara jinked his way into the home area but his low cross was hacked clear. Wolves should have strengthened their lead in the 51st minute when Olsson's poor header let in Jarvis whose shot rolled agonisingly wide of the far post with Boaz Myhill beaten. Three minutes later Henry lost out in a midfield challenge with Odemwingie. The striker raced to the edge of the area before slipping a pass to Fortune whose shot was deflected behind by Berra. Elokobi blocked a dangerous effort from Odemwingie and then Scharner fired over the bar after he had latched onto a clearance from Richard Stearman. Myhill punched clear a Milijaš free-kick after Doyle had been fouled by Dorrans to the left of the Albion area, and then Fortune missed a sitter when he failed to control an Odemwingie cross. Midway through the half, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake replaced Milijaš just seconds before Jarvis rescued Wolves as he headed Olsson's header off the line following a Brunt corner. Albion introduced Vela for Dorrans and the Mexican was soon in the thick of things with Hennessey making a good save from a shot that took a deflection off Stearman. Tamas was inches away from scoring an own goal as he diverted a Doyle cross past the post but it was the home fans that were celebrating after Vela's last gasp point saver. Hennessey couldn't hold onto James Morrison's 20-yard drive and the ball spooned up off the keeper's legs for Vela to volley into the empty net.

The BBC said West Brom 1 - 1 Wolverhampton Loan signing Vela earned his side a precious point in injury time
Carlos Vela's injury-time goal earned West Brom a vital point from a fiercely-fought Black Country derby against Wolves at the Hawthorns. Jamie O'Hara's curling shot at the end of a lively but disjointed first half had looked sure to win it for Wolves. Marc-Antoine Fortune wasted a great chance and Jonas Olsson had a header cleared off the line as West Brom seemed destined not to score. But at the death, Vela followed up a Wayne Hennessey fumble to earn a draw. Bottom-of-the-table Wolves had failed to win on their last eight visits to their biggest rivals but served notice of their intention to break that run as they had the better of the early exchanges. Left winger Matt Jarvis was a particularly potent threat, linking up well with O'Hara and causing right-back Gonzalo Jara all kinds of problems. After weathering the early storm, the home side found their feet and they were soon testing Wolves from a series of Chris Brunt corners. Whenever the Baggies captain sent over the ball, it seemed to find a team-mate and the first real action for either goalkeeper came when Hennessey was forced to stretch and keep out Olsson's diving far-post header. Gabriel Tamas put another header just off target and Christophe Berra had to be at his best to deny Paul Scharner a chance to get on the end of Nicky Shorey's cross as the Baggies continued to apply pressure. But for all their territorial advantage, Hennessey's goal was rarely coming under direct threat. And shortly before half-time, West Brom were made to pay for failing to take their chances as Wolves took the lead. Tamas fouled Kevin Doyle just outside the angle of the penalty box and from the resulting free-kick Nenad Miljijas played the ball into the path of O'Hara, whose left-foot first-time shot from outside the area had enough curl on it to evade the grasp of Boaz Myhill in the Baggies goal. Jarvis wasted a great chance to double Wolves' lead early in the second half when Tamas fluffed his attempted header back to Myhill, gifting a chance to the winger, but he put the ball wide of the far post. This near-miss seemed to inspire the home side as they then launched a furious assault on Hennessey's goal. First, Karl Henry was robbed of possession near the halfway line by Peter Odemwingie, who charged through on goal and laid the ball off to Fortune, whose effort was deflected behind for a corner by the keeper. Then a thunderous challenge by Scharner won the ball for Brunt to send over a cross that Hennessey could only palm away. Odemwingie did his best to stretch and put the ball into the net, only to be denied by a challenge from George Elokobi. The visitors barely had time to pause for breath before West Brom's next chance, as Odemwingie knocked the ball down into the path of Fortune just six yards out with only Hennessey to beat - but he failed to connect with the ball, letting the visitors off the hook in embarrassing fashion. Olsson was the next to try his luck with a header that left Hennessey stranded but Jarvis was on the far post to head the ball off the line. The Welsh keeper was called into action again when he used his knees to block substitute Vela's deflected shot. Wolves almost snatched a second goal when Tamas came within inches of putting Doyle's cross into his own net but the longer the game went on without a second goal, the more inevitable Wolves' victory looked. However, in injury time substitute James Morrison's shot was blocked but not held by Hennessey and Vela was quickest to react and earn his side a valuable point.
West Brom manager Roy Hodgson:
"It was richly deserved, when you score in injury time there's always a get-out-of-jail element to it as you've come to terms with it not being your day, but from the start we did more than enough to win. Wolves defended solidly but their keeper was under pressure a lot and apart from Jamie O'Hara's goal and the backheader, we kept them at bay. We knew it would be tough, I'm happy with point. All draws are either wins or defeat - last week's 3-3 was like a defeat, this 1-1 is a victory. I think the players will feel content they got something out of it, but after a day or two we'll be disappointed we had chances but didn't do enough to win it.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy:
"I'm feeling a bit lousy - it seems like a win to them, we played well and just a mistake cost us at the very end but it was a good performance by our lads. In the first half we were terrific, in the second they had to take chances and push people forward. Overall it was a good performance by us, but we needed that second goal as we don't get too many 1-0s."

MATCH PREVIEW
Roy Hodgson marks his return to management with the first-ever Premier League Black Country derby. The mutual dislike between these clubs has been going on for 125
years, since Albion knocked Wolves out of the FA Cup, and relations are hardly likely to mellow during this relegation dogfight.
I've got 12 times 90 minutes here and we have to make every one count. I'd settle for staying up on the last day again as long as we survive
West Brom boss Roy Hodgson
A 2008 survey of football fans voted this the fiercest rivalry in England, and it will be intensified by the fact these are dark times in the Black Country. Wolves are marooned
at the bottom of the table and West Brom are in freefall after a run of only five points from the 30 available since early December.
Hodgson returns to the dugout just 43 days after his departure from Liverpool, with Albion hoping he can perform the same sort of rescue act he achieved at Fulham three
years ago when he saved the west London club from relegation on the final day of the season. Crucially, however, he had six weeks and six games more at Craven Cottage.
Hodgson was unveiled at The Hawthorns on Valentine's Day, and a derby win in his first game in charge would instantly ingratiate the 63-year-old in the hearts of Baggies
fans.
MATCH FACTS

West Brom
• The Baggies have the worst defensive record in the top flight, having let in 51 goals. They have gone a club record 24 Premier League games without a clean sheet. • Their only clean sheet this season came in the second game of the campaign, a 1-0 home win over Sunderland. • They went fourth after beating Fulham on 23 October but have since taken only 12 points from 17 matches (W3, D3, L11).

Saturday 12 February Arsenal A2 (Van Persie 16, 56) Wolves 0
Well, van Persie's second was clearly offside. Would it have made a difference? Only Wayne's resilience a great save by Stears and some awful shooting by Arsenal stopped this being a numeric rout. Visually it was as for most of the first half Wolves decided to play in their own half. No point in playing a lone striker against 4 = no pressure, no chances and no possession. It was only when Sylvan came on that we had a brief period of possession, and Sylvn skied over after Zubes' pass was a little strong. Capt Karl had nearly as bad a day as last year when he was sent off. This time his passing and decision making were simply third rate. Mick needs to think about his contribution.
Afte r their heroics against Manchester United a week earlier, Wolves rarely threatened second placed Arsenal who took the spoils from a one sided game thanks to a brace from Robin Van Per sie. Mick McCarthy's team was unchanged following the win over United as Arsenal kicked-off at the Emirates Stadium in a hail storm. The early pressure came from the Gunners and whilst the hail soon relented, the pressure didn't. Christophe Berra had to clear a low cross from Van Persie and then Nenad Milijaš had little time to spare as he blasted a centre from Cesc Fabregas into the crowd. Berra was then penalised for a challenge on Jack Wilshere three yards outside the Wolves area but Van Persie's free-kick was too high to trouble Wayne Hennessey. Van Persie was wide with a shot from the edge of the box after he had taken a pass from Alex Song before Wanderers finally broke from their defensive shackles with Johan Djourou fouling Kevin Doyle to the left of the home area. Adam Hammill lifted the free-kick into the heart of the area but the raised flag of the linesman on the far side ended any hope of capitalising on it. Matt Jarvis won a corner off Laurent Koscielny b ut Milijaš's kick was punched clear by Wojciech Szczesny before Arsenal moved into a 16th minute lead as Van Persie hit a right foot volley into the net after Fabregas had supplied the cross from the right. Andrey Arshavin almost made it two four minutes later but he shanked his shot horribly wide after Van Persie's corner found him unmarked in front of goal. From a Hammill corner Ronald Zubar headed well wide and when Arsenal went back on the attack George Elokobi had to clear Wilshere's low cross as Van Persie raced in. The visitors goal led something of a charmed life in the 31st minute. Hennessey made a brilliant save to deny Theo Walcott who had connected with Wilshere's cross. The loose ball dropped to Fabregas and this time it was Richard Stearman who produced the rescue act as he cleared off the line with Zubar averting any further danger by booting upfield. Either side of a booking for Zubar for a foul on Walcott, both sides had penalty claims waved away. Djourou's challenge on Hammill was dismissed and then Hammill survived an appeal himself when Arshavin went down under his challenge in the Wolves box. In stoppage time Hennessey saved with his feet as Van Persie threatened to add to his tally.
Half-Time; Arsenal 1 Wolves 0
Twi ce in the opening two minutes of the second ha lf Arsenal could have scored. A tremendous run by Wilshere opened up the Wolves defence and with everyone expecting the youngster to finish the job off himself, he slipped the ball to Walcott who shot wide with just Hennessey to beat. Then Stearman almost turned a Wilshere cross into his own net with Hennessey blocking with his foot and Van Persie lifting the rebound high over the bar. Zubar and Van Persie both needed treatment after the Wolves man had caught the Dutch striker as he attempted to clear, then Arshavin rifled a 22-yard shot narrowly wide of the mark. But The Gunners got a second on 56 minutes as Walcott broke down the right before squaring the ball to Van Persie who made no mistake from the edge of the box. In the minutes that followed, both sides made double changes. For Wolves Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Foley went on for Milijaš and Jamie O'Hara before Arsčne Wenger replaced Van Persie and Arshavin with Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner. Arsenal made a final switch in the 76th minute with the lively Wilshere making way for Denilson and four minutes later Steven Fletcher went on for Doyle for Wolves. Arsenal were in irrepressible form but credit to Wolves who never gave up trying. Fletcher had a shot blocked by Djourou and the home side had every man back for the two corners that followed. Walcott shot wide of the far post after a run from inside his own half and an exchange of passes with Cha makh, and in the last minute Ebanks-Blake fired narrowly over the bar after Zubar had turned the ball into his path. There was no doubt that Hennessey was Wolves' star player and in stoppage time he plucked a shot from Fabregas out of the air to keep the final score down to 2-0.

Saturday 5 February Wolves 2 Elokobi 10 Doyle 40 Manchester United Nani 3 ko 5.30pmLive on ESPN
Wolves 2-1 Man Utd FT (HT 2-1)
* Elokobi 10 * Doyle 40 * Nani 3
Deja vu 2003 style all over again. Rio Ferdinand lasted 6 minutes less than 2003 and Wolves beat Man Utd. A goal down in 3 minutes could have been it, but George Elokobi was determined to make amends for letting Nani trick him and 7 minutes later had a clear header from Jarvo's great cross. Jamie O'Hara had a great debut, although risked a red card after his first booking, while Hammill was very impressive and the two wingers caused ManU a few problems. For once Vidic wasn't able to muscle our guys away but, hopefully Smalling's thuggery with a deloberate elbow on Kevin Doyle will be handled by the PL with a 3 match ban. Also, for once, Scholes got himself booked for a double handball trying to score. Giggs also uncharacteristically hacked at Doyler's shin. At least the manager still has some grace as their all time record attempt was halted at a rocking Moli.
By Chris Whyatt on the Beeb
Below-par Manchester United fell to a first league defeat of the season as bottom-of-the-table Wolves proved that relegation is not a formality for them. United led after three minutes as Nani drilled home inside the near post after turning George Elokobi inside-out. But Elokobi headed in well soon after with United's defence sleeping as Matt Jarvis executed a short-corner routine. Kevin Doyle then glanced in just before the break, after which the visitors failed to carve out any clear chances. Not only will Wolves' hopes of avoiding relegation soar with a fine win that puts them only two points behind 17th-placed Wigan with a game in hand, but United's Premier League title rivals will be seriously buoyed now that their daunting 29-match unbeaten run is over. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson looked livid with his United team as they failed to usurp the record of his 1999 Treble winners with a display that deteriorated rapidly after Nani's early opener. Though Wolves remain bottom by virtue of an inferior goal difference to Birmingham and West Ham, they have now beaten five of the top seven - United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Sunderland - this season. United appeared to pay the price for the absence of in-form England captain Rio Ferdinand, whose calf injury suffered in the warm-up meant Jonny Evans was pressed into action. Instant drama ensued as Wolves appealed for a penalty as Brazilian right-back Rafael swept away danger from Matt Jarvis with his upper body after 40 seconds. But United took the lead soon after as Nani showcased the superior side to his inconsistent game. Breaking into the right side of Wolves' penalty area, he played with Elokobi over and over while ignoring both Berbatov and Rooney as they lurked in the centre with arms aloft. In a flash of movement he then sent Olokobi the wrong way before cutting inside to power a ruthless left foot shot past Hennessey at the Welshman's near post. The visitors could have added an instant second, but Rooney screwed an ugly attempt high into Hennessey's arms after Berbatov cleverly found the unmarked England striker. Yet United may have paid the price for overconfidence as they completely lost their concentration after 10 minutes to let Wolves back in. As Jarvis took a quick corner Rafael jogged into his penalty area with his back to the ball with United utterly disorganised. And when it was quickly returned to Jarvis, with United failing to mark up properly, his clean cross was met with a full-blooded header by former Colchester defender Elokobi - who had to stretch his neck back to add power - with Edwin Van der Sar well beaten at full stretch. Rooney then just failed to find Berbatov as the strong wind took his searching long pass out of his strike partner's stride. Berbatov, who has scored 13 goals in his past nine Premier League appearances, then brilliantly found space in box with series of effective flicks but his weak shot caused Hennessey no trouble. But, after Nani went close with a 28th-minute free kick, Wolves dug deep into their resources to turn the tide as they began to control the rest of the half. Impressive debutant Jamie O'Hara, on loan from Tottenham, nearly squeezed the ball home at the near post but alert 40-year-old goalkeeper Van der Sar improvised to kick the ball away for a corner. Nemad Milijas almost put Wolves ahead when his 37th-minute free-kick from 20 yards nearly crept inside stranded Van der Sar's far post, but the wicked deflection off Vidic's head took it just wide. But his free kick three minutes later, from wide on the right, proved a crucial assist. Wolves team-mates Kevin Doyle and Olikobi both battled to get a headed touch as the ball flew into the net, although Doyle insisted his was the last as they celebrated in front of the joyous home fans at Molineux. United did have a chance just before the break but, with Ferguson fuming on the sidelines, Nani headed Rafael's right-wing cross over the bar. Midfield veteran Paul Scholes replaced ineffective Michael Carrick for the second half. But, for once, his enduring class failed to instigate a real sense of urgency for United although he did come close to connecting with an early low cross. Wolves, however, looked just as likely to extend their lead as United wasted the ball when well-placed in advanced areas. Jarvis was a constant threat, and jinked well inside Rafael in the penalty area to work a smart pull-back for O'Hara. But the midfielder needed more power behind his side-footer as Vidic cleared the danger. Rafael then needed medical attention as he suffered an alarming-looking dislocated finger, although he was able to continue after it was reset. Chris Smalling came on for injured Evans, before Mexican forward Javier Hernandez replaced Berbatov. But Hernandez - United's late saviour on many occasions this season - could not work his magic as a substitute once more. After O'Hara was replaced by Kevin Foley, seemingly to protect him from receiving a second yellow card, Nani then showed the more frustrating side of his character as he shot wildly into the crowd with a host of team-mates well placed. And United's desperation became clear when Scholes was booked for handling - rather than heading - a late attempt to steer a cross past Hennessey, although the keeper made sure of the save anyway as Wolves sealed the three points despite five minutes of added time.

Wedsnesday February 2 Bolton 1 Wolves 0 ko 8pm replay on Football First Sky 10:30pm
Wednesday, 2 February 2011 Barclays Premier League Bolton 1-0 Wolves FT (HT 0-0) * Sturridge 90+2
A dour game with Bolton and Wolves generally evenly matched but Zubes boobs got worse as the match went on until the last one looked like a deliberate pass to the opposition to gift Bolton the points in the last minute. His back passes were nearly as bad as JArvo's early miss, while the post denied Doyler a brilliant solo goal which might also have wrapped it up.WoW said Bolton 1 (Sturridge 90+2) Wolves 0
A terrible mistake by Ronald Zubar in the second of three minutes of added time, denied Wolves a point that was the least their efforts deserved after a battling display against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium. The defender's suicidal backpass was intercepted by home substitute Daniel Sturridge who left Wayne Hennessey with no chance. There were five changes to the team that had started against Stoke in the weekend's FA Cup tie. Adam Hammill made his full debut in place of the injured Stephen Hunt, Hennessey returned in goal for Marcus Hahnemann, and Dave Jones, Dave Edwards and Kevin Doyle came in for Stephen Ward, Steven Fletcher and Nenad Milijaš all of whom were named as substitutes. New loan signing Jamie O'Hara also took a place on the bench whilst included in the Bolton team was former Molineux Academy graduate, Mark Davies. Wolves kicked-off attacking the end of the ground that housed around 2,000 travelling fans. Bolton had an early opening after George Elokobi was penalised for a push on Johan Elmander on the Bolton right but Matt Taylor's free-kick was headed clear by Doyle who had dropped back from his lone front role. In the seventh minute Stuart Holden's centre was flicked on by Elmander to Chung-Yong Lee who blasted a shot high and wide from close range. Christophe Berra had to race across to clear as Taylor threatened to reach Zubar's underhit backpass before Wolves went close to opening their account in the 10th minute. Hammill's over the top ball released Matt Jarvis who raced through on goal with just Jussi Jaaskelainen to beat. But the winger dragged his shot a foot the wrong side of the post as he pushed the ball past the keeper. Within a minute, Hennessey made a tremendous save from Elmander's low shot after the ball had broken to the Swede inside Wolves' area. Then Taylor was denied by the keeper who saved with his legs after Lee's through ball opened up the visitors rearguard. Midway through the half Bolton survived strong penalty claims. Karl Henry drilled an angled pass into the path of Zubar who crossed hard and low to Hammill whose initial shot hit a defender. But when the ball rebounded to the winger he appeared to be wrestled to the ground by Zat Knight. The referee, however, who was well placed, must have thought it a legal challenge. Play continued to flow from end to end with Wolves having more than their fair share of possession. From a Taylor free-kick, the defence ran out and no fewer than five Bolton men were caught offside. But Sam Ricketts was inches away from opening the scoring in the 42nd minute when he suddenly let fly from 30-yards with a shot that was much too close for comfort. Ricketts was then caught in two minds at the back and Doyle quickly took advantage to gain possession and deliver a cross that Edwards scooped over the bar.
Half-Time: Bolton 0 Wolves 0
Just 40 seconds after the restart Hammill gained possession on the right and ran for 30-yards before cutting into the box. It looked like he was going to open the score but his low shot bounced to safety off Gary Cahill. Then a Jarvis cross was helped on by Doyle to Edwards whose shot on the turn was blocked and cleared before Henry could prosper. Jones had a low drive saved by Jaaskelainen and then it was Hennessey who blocked from Lee virtually on the line after Kevin Davies had nodded on Taylor's corner. Paul Robinson clattered into Richard Stearman and then stood menacingly over the prostrate Wolves defender sparking a mini bout of pushing and shoving between players from both sides. Order was quickly restored but then the referee booked not only Robinson, but the innocent Stearman as well. Hennessey had to be at his best to keep out Berra's shanked clearance after a cross from Lee, and then Doyle was too high with a first time effort after Jarvis had lifted the ball across. Hammill got in the way of a Taylor shot after a scramble in the Wolves area, before Henry went in to the book for pulling back Lee who was replaced shortly afterwards, as was Taylor, with Sturridge and Rodrigo their replacements. Elmander scuffed a shot wide and, after Zubar had been booked for body checking Holden, Hennessey turned a Cahill shot around the post. Wolves made a double switch with O'Hara and Ward going on in place of Jarvis and Edwards. O'Hara was soon involved winning a tackle and sending over a cross that was cleared. In the 88th minute, Doyle, the only Wolves player in the Bolton half, cut inside and hit a shot that took a deflection and came back off the post with Jaaskelainen beaten. But, from being within an ace of winning the game, Zubar's stoppage time howler handed the three points to a fortunate

The Beeb By Oliver Brett
Debutant Daniel Sturridge's goal deep into injury time gave Bolton their first Premier League win in six games. The striker, a loan signing from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, pounced on a dreadful back pass from Ronald Zubar to steal the points. Until then, goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey had denied Bolton at the Reebok, making three outstanding saves. The best Wolves chance fell to Matt Jarvis but he could not force a save from Jussi Jaaskelainen. And the combination of Jarvis's miss, Sturridge's late blow and a win by West Ham United at Blackpool left Mick McCarthy's men two points adrift at the bottom of the table. The visitors should have put a different complexion on the match after only 10 minutes. Adam Hammill pumped a lofted pass forward from the halfway line, releasing Jarvis into acres of space as an inadequate Bolton offside trap was sprung with ease. All Jarvis had to do was slip the ball past Jaaskelainen as the goalkeeper advanced in desperation, but somehow he missed the left-hand post before burying his head in his hands. The hosts created four good chances in the first half. Johan Elmander connected poorly when presented with a header from Stuart Holden's cross, but made much better contact when Kevin Davies used his strength and experience to provide a short lay-off from the edge of the box. This time Elmander's right-footed strike was heading for the corner, only for Hennessey to dive to his right to pull off a good save. Hennessey was also called into action when Chung-Yong Lee, despite being felled by George Elokobi, got back to his feet to swing a lovely cross through to Matt Taylor. Again the Wolves keeper saved the day. Although McCarthy's side produced a few bright moments aside from the spurned Jarvis chance, the visitors' defenders were frequently put under pressure and rarely looked confident of coping. As he interval approached, they were almost caught napping when Sam Ricketts cut in from the left and unleashed a fierce shot that whistled just wide of Hennessey's left-hand upright with the keeper stranded. A generally scrappy second half was enlivened by some marauding runs from Hammill, the Ł500,000 signing from Barnsley who looks a very useful prospect. Bolton gradually began to reassert their superiority and when Lee sent through a telling cross from the right it almost resulted in a goal. An attempted clearance from Wolves defender Christophe Berra went badly wrong, but Hennessey was on hand to make his third excellent save of the night. Both teams made changes as they pressed for a positive finish. Among the substitutes were Sturridge and Wolves' new face in midfield, Jamie O'Hara. The visitors remained second best and Jaaskelainen was not called on to make a save of note in the entire match. Bolton could not capitalise on a rare error from Hennessey when the keeper dropped the ball at the feet of Elmander, but an awkward bounce prevented the Swede from getting a meaningful shot away. Surprisingly, it was Wolves who came closest to breaking the deadlock when Kevin Doyle's deflected shot rebounded off an upright - but it would have been a doubly fortunate goal, since the striker had clearly begun his run from an offside position. It looked set to be a frustrating night for both sets of supporters, until Sturridge, who had been kept quiet in his 23-minute slice of action, hit a first-time shot sweetly past Hennessey from close range - though what Zubar was trying to achieve with his ill-advised backpass was anyone's guess.
