Telegraph “Jackett does seems to have the Wright stuff” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/league-one/10656721/Wolves-end-Brentfords-impressive-League-One-run.html as Nouha Dicko and Michael Jacobs are both in the “team of the weekend” with Jacobs as the star E&S http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2014/02/22/brentford-0-wolves-3-vote-for-your-star-of-the-match/ A Michael Jacobs d ouble helped Wolves on their way to ending Brentford's 19 game unbeaten run. Wolves won the batt le of the League One heavyweights as their march to automatic promotion continued with arguably their most ruthless performance of the season to end Brentford’s 19-match unbeaten run. Goals from James Henry in first-half time added on and Michael Jacobs’s second successive brace in 71 and 85 gave Kenny Jackett’s side their sixth win in a row and moved them back into second place behind Leyton Orient on goals scored.
Wolves were good value for their latest success, with Bakry Sako and Nouha Dicko denied in the first half, while Henry missed a golden chance just before scoring. After the break, Brentford bossed the possession but couldn’t penetrate a rock-solid Wolves defence superbly marshalled by Danny Batth and Scott Golbourne, leaving the visitors to punish them on the counter. Head coach Jackett named an unchanged team to the side that beat Notts County 2-0 last week. But there were changes on the bench, where Dave Edwards returned and David Davis was in the 18 again, with George Elokobi and Ibrahim Keita making way. Wolves, wearing their all-purple away kit, kicked off attacking the end where their sell-out 1,600 f ollowing were massed. But chances were as thin on the ground as the heavily sanded pitch, which saw both teams struggle to keep the ball on the bobbly surface. Wolves were first to show in the 16th minute with a right-foot shot from Bakary Sako after cutting inside that keeper David Button carried behind for a fruitless corner. The visitors should have taken the lead in the 28th minute when Sako put Nouha Dicko through but Button did superbly to dart from his line and smother the danger. The loose ball fell to Michael Jacobs, but the former Derby wideman was put off by Tony Craig sliding in and the chance was lost. Three minutes later, Brentford had a sight of goal as a free kick reached the unmarked Jonathan Douglas at the far post. But Danny Batth, who had conceded the set-piece for a foul on Clayton Donaldson, threw himself at the shot to block for a corner. Carl Ikeme was forced into his first serious save three minutes before the break, diving full length to his right to push away a firm drive from Alan Judge after a well-worked free-kick routine. But Wolves regrouped to create a superb chance for Sako then Henry, before taking the lead. First Sako unselfishly – but perhaps wrongly – opted to square to Henry after passing up the chance to shoot himself after a superb run from the French winger right at the heart of the Bees’ defence a minute before the break. Henry was put off by a fine and crucial sliding challenge from Douglas. But Wolves fans didn’t have to wait long for the goal they craved. Kevin McDonald was the architect, taking possession after a throw-in on the right and cutting the ball back for Henry, who found the top corner of the net with a cross-cum-shot.
Brentf ord had the first chance of the second half as George Saville’s wayward shot took a horrible deflection and dropped fractionally wide in the 62nd minute. The home side were now enjoying most of the possession but they were struggling to break down a resilient Wolves defence. Judge again threatened from distance but his 30-yard effort flew just wide on 67. Wolves were happy to hit Brentford on the counter-attack and it almost paid off in the 68th minute when Jacobs wriggled through onto Sako’s pass and hit Button’s legs with an angled low drive. And the same combination paid off spectacularly as Wolves doubled their lead. Dicko’s run down the inside left pulled the defence towards him ad Sako brilliantly spotted Jacobs all alone racing through the middle. The former Derby man netted with a toe-poked finish. A minute later Dave Edwards made his comeback when he came on for Henry to give the team extra energy. Dicko missed the chance to make it 3-0 on 76 after he missed his kick when clean through. But it didn’t matter as Jacobs netted a superb third for Wolves, picking his spot with a curling shot in the top corner after controlling Scott Golbourne’s cut-back from the left on the edge of the area.
BBC Wolves ended Brentford's 19-game unbeaten run in League One to leapfrog them and go second in the table. The first half lacked clear-cut chances, but Wolves had the lead just before the break when James Henry curled home Kevin McDonald's cut-back. Adam Forshaw and Alan Judge both went close to bringing the Bees level with long-range efforts that went just wide. But Michael Jacobs finished off a terrific Wolves counter-attack before striking the third into the top corner. The result meant Brentford manager Mark Warburton tasted defeat for the first time since he took charge, and they dropped from top spot to third, with the loss compounded by Leyton Orient's victory over Swindon. Brentford had edged the opening stages of the game at Griffin Park, but it was Wolves who had the first real opening of the match as Nouha Dicko fired straight at Brentford keeper David Button when through on goal. After Carl Ikeme did well to stop a fine effort by Judge, Henry gave Wolves the initiative going into the break from McDonald's ball from the byline. After half-time, Brentford piled pressure on the visitors, with Forshaw's strike deflecting just wide off Jack Price, before Judge was narrowly off target from 25 yards out. However, Jacobs slid the ball underneath an oncoming Button against the run of play before striking from the edge of the area to seal his side's sixth successive win and hand Brentford their first loss in the league since 12 October. Brentford manager Mark Warburton told BBC London 94.9: "I think we lacked a bit of belief in the first half, we didn't play at our tempo and both teams gave each other too much respect initially. Despite going a goal down at half-time, we were confident. For the first half an hour of the second half we were good but not very good. We lacked a bit of quality in the final third and we didn't take care of the ball I don't think it should have been 3-0 but we have to learn from this. The message to the players was remember that horrible feeling right now, we don't want it again and learn what we can do better as a team." League One leaders Brentford will look to extend their 19-match unbeaten run when they host third-placed Wolves. Bees midfielder Sam Saunders has had an operation on his knee and will be sidelined for at least two weeks. Wolves striker Leon Clarke is doubtful as he struggles to recover from the heel injury that sidelined him for the 2-0 win against Notts County. Midfielder Dave Edwards is available after recovering from a foot injury and could be on the bench. The Bees have won 16 times since their last defeat on 12 October, but defeat will see them replaced at the top of the table. Wolves make the journey to west London, having won their last five games. The two sides drew 0-0 when they met at Molineux back in November. Brentford manager Mark Warburton told BBC London 94.9: "There's a hunger and a passion to move forward. If you can't enjoy these times you shouldn't be in the game. "We are top of the table and there for a reason as we have played some great football. "They have won their last five games so they are obviously doing something right. They have some very good players and a very experienced manager. We are aware of the
test but always respect the opponents. "They are a big club and were in the Premier League a couple of years ago. I am sure Kenny Jackett will turn around and say that weight of expectation can weigh very
heavily sometimes." Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett told BBC WM: "I think it will be a great atmosphere, but we are used to that wherever we go because two years ago Wolves were a Premier League team. "They have a lot of quality throughout their team and we will have to concentrate and make sure we work hard to do well. "Look at them over the last couple of seasons, they have been a very efficient and effective League One team."

SKY BET LEAGUE ONE Venue: Molineux Date: Saturday, 15 February Kick-off: 15:00 GMT Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Jacobs 17′, 54′ Notts County 0 FT 90 +4 HT 1-0 Wolves 2-0 Notts County - match report http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2014/02/15/wolves-2-0-notts-county-match-report/ Stears clocked up 150 games for Wolves with a man-of-the-match display . A Michael Jacobs double fired Wolves to a fifth successive victory in the League One promotion race. The midfielder netted a goal in each half as Kenny Jackett’s side kept up their pursuit of leaders Brentford. Wolves missed several chances to make the win more convincing as they dominated possession but Jacobs, who operated behind Nouha Dicko with Leon Clarke injured, scored with a header on 17 m inutes and a long-range shot on 54 to make sure of the win. The home side were a little casual at times, however, and County threatened to stage a fightback in the final 20 minutes. Wolves had the better of a scrappy opening and their first attempt on goal came in the 12th minute as Nouha Dicko cut in from the right and bent a left-footed shot just off target. And Dicko went close again two minutes later after a good move by the hosts. Jack Price and Scott Golbourne combined to find Michael Jacobs, who swung a fine ball out to James Henry on the right. Henry’s cross was missed by defender Kieron Freeman and Dicko bundled the ball just wide. But Wolves were ahead on 16 minutes from another smart move. Bakary Sako picked out Golbourne on the overlap and the left-back’s superb cross was nodded home at close range by the unmarked Jacobs. Wolves continued to dominate and Sako’s powerful effort from a tight angle was turned around the post by Bartosz Bialkowski in the County goal. And the keeper then made a more routine save to stop Dicko’s effort from the edge of the area. Another fine piece of play almost paid off for Wolves as Jacobs played an excellent one-two with Price but was let down by his first touch. Then they were almost hit with a sucker punch as James Spencer picked out Callum McGregor in the box with a fine ball and the County man poked his shot just wide. But Wolves were soon back on the attack as Sako’s powerful shot was parried by Bialkowski and Alan Sheehan made a hurried clearance from the rebound. Just three minutes into the second half Wolves missed a glorious chance to double their lead when Sako burst down the left and crossed for Dicko, who somehow side-footed wide when unmarked. But it was 2-0 on 54 minutes as Richard Stearman strode forward from the back and squared for Jacobs, who bent home a 25-yard shot that somehow squirmed past Bialkowski. It should have been 3-0 moments la ter when Jacobs’ fine through-ball sent Henry racing clear but Bialkowski made a smart save in a one-on-one. And there was another near miss for Jackett’s side when a raking ball from Sako found Dicko in the clear, but his shot was parried by Bialkowski with Freeman just beating Henry to the rebound. A rare chance arose for the visitors when the ball dropped for Andre Boucaud on the edge of the box but he fired straight at Carl Ikeme in the Wolves goal. With 11 minutes remaining County missed a glorious chance to set up an interesting finish when Jack Grealish headed over from Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s cross. bbc Michael Jacobs scored twice as Wolves eased past struggling Notts County to keep their League One promotion challenge on track. Jacobs capitalised on Wolves' bright start to head in his first from Scott Golbourne's left-wing cross. Bakary Sako was twice denied by Notts keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, while Nouha Dicko fired wide from 10 yards. Jacobs made it two with a 25-yard strike, before Jack Grealish headed the visitors' best chance over late on. The victory was second-placed Wolves' fifth in succession and kept them two points behind leaders Brentford, who were comfortable 3-1 winners at Crewe. But they are now three points clear of Leyton Orient in third, and with a game in hand, after the O's were held to a draw at fellow promotion challengers Preston. Notts County, who had not won a league game at Molineux since 1991, remain in the relegation zone, one point from safety. View from the dressing room
Notts County manager Shaun Derry told BBC Radio Nottingham: "This is wonderful football club, but I feel disappointed we have not given them a game. I am concerned about the level of performances, on how we can go from Coventry
last weekend to this one today. I just feel a little let down with what I have seen." Kevin McDonald’s second goal in as many games broke the deadlock in first-half time added on before a Stephen Darby own goal announced as Nouha Dicko’s sealed it in the 57th minute for their fourth consecutive victory. Kenny Jackett’s side went second for the first time since the 1-1 draw at Tranmere on New Year’s Day after Leyton Orient lost 2-1 at Rotherham. Wolves dominated the second half after being given an advantage when midfielder Nathan Doyle was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 28th minute, although Bradford hit the woodwork in each half through Adam Reach and Darby. The home side could however have won by a much greater margin only for Richard Stearman, Bakary Sako and new signing Leon Clarke three times to be denied or miss chances. Head coach Jackett made one change from the side that beat Oldham 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Clarke returned to the Wolves team for the first time in more than seven years after his £750,000 signing from Coventry this week. The 28-year-old striker replaced Lee Evans, who dropped to the bench, where there was a return for Matt Doherty for the first time since November 26. Substitutes at Boundary Park in midweek Wayne Hennessey, Leigh Griffiths and Kevin Doyle were replaced by Jonathan Flatt, Doherty and Evans after their respective transfers to Crystal Palace, Celtic and QPR in a hectic day of departures from Molineux yesterday, completed by Bjorn Sigurdarson, who joined Norwegian club Molde on loan.
Wolves kicked off in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation with Clarke up front alongside Nouha Dicko but it was Bradford, with one-time Wolves target Aaron Mclean up front but without former Molineux players Kyel Reid (injured) and Kyle Bennett (suspended), who created the first chance. Garry Thompson arrived late on the edge of the box but could only screw his shot well wide from a central position in the third minute. Wolves replied and keeper Jon McLaughlin bravely smothered at the feet of Dicko from a Clarke knockdown after McDonald pumped the ball into the box in the eighth minute. Doyle was booked in the 19th minute after hacking down Dicko on the Wolves left – a challenge which was soon to have serious consequences for the combative Bradford midfielder. Wolves’ best chance until McDonald struck came in the 24th minute when Stearman was presented with a superb aerial chance from Michael Jacobs’s corner but from six yards out, he could only direct his header straight at McLaughlin. Four minutes later, Doyle was sent off for a second bookable offence when he caught McDonald late with a studs-up challenge in the centre circle to leave referee Scott Duncan with little alternative but to hand him an early bath. But if Wolves fans thought having the extra man would hand them the initiative they were sadly mistaken as the game became stodgy and the home side lost the momentum. Instead it was Bradford who broke to go closest as Middlesbrough’s on-loan winger Reach, who impressed on loan at Shrewsbury earlier this season, rattled the angle of post and bar from an angle in the 34th minute. Wolves, in their stickiest spell of the game, eventually responded four minutes from the break when Sako launched a piledriver that was turned behind at the near post. And they emerged from a quiet spell with the breakthrough in the third minute of time added on at the end of the first half. It was a classy effort too, as McDonald calmly rolled the ball into the corner of the net to McLaughlin’s left following Sako’s short pass inside in a carbon-copy of his opener at Oldham in midweek.
Wolves failed to hit the ground running at the start of the second half instead were rocked on their heels by a tremendous rising effort from right-back Darby that smacked against the angle of post and bar in the 53rd minute. But Wolves made them pay four minutes later when they grabbed a second goal. There was an element of fortune about it for the home side as Sako’s cross from the right saw Dicko and Darby slide in for it and the ball trickle over the line. And although it was announced as Dicko’s, the French striker’s muted celebrations said anything but. Sako made way for James Henry on the hour and the theme for the rest of the game was all about Bradford containing Wolves and whether Clarke would score. First he headed on top of the net at the far post from Ricketts’s cross after fine work from Dicko on 62. A minute later, he was booked for a ‘forward’s tackle’ on Gary Jones. But on 65 he went desperately close after beating McLaughlin then nudging the ball goalwards only for Darby to clear the ball off the line as Dicko slid in unsuccessfully. With Wolves playing keep-ball and Bradford happy to try to contain them, Clarke was a whisker away in the 79th minute from Henry’s superb cross. In-form Wolves kept possession for virtually the rest of the game but although they couldn’t add to their tally, it was a third clean sheet in four and another comfortable victory to keep the heat on at the top.

Team news for Saturday's League One clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bradford City at Molineux.
New signing Leon Clarke could make his second Wolves debut at home to Bradford. The striker rejoined his hometown club on Thursday for an undisclosed fee from Coventry, just over seven years since his last appearance for the Black Country outfit before parting ways. Midfielder Dave Edwards continues to miss out due to a minor foot injury while defender Matt Doherty (hamstring) is also not yet ready as third-placed Wanderers aim to close the four-point gap on League One leaders Brentford.
Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is expected to return next month from a broken bone in his hand.
Bradford's new loan signing Kyle Bennett will miss out at Wolves after being sent off on his debut for the club in midweek. Doncaster winger Bennett has joined on loan until the end of the season, but was shown a straight red card in Tuesday night's 0-0 draw against Preston and, after a successful appeal, has had his ban reduced from three games to one. Defender Andrew Davies (knee) returned to action against Preston after a long-term injury lay-off and is expected to continue after suffering no adverse reaction. Boss Phil Parkinson has no other new injury or suspension problems, but midfielder Nathan Doyle (groin) will be monitored and James Meredith (foot), Kyel Reid (knee) and Raffaele De Vita (thigh) are still out.
Transfer Deadline Day: Wolves sign Wycombe's Kortney Hause
League One promotion chasers Wolves have signed Wycombe's teenage defender Kortney Hause for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Molineux and is the fifth permanent signing made by head coach Kenny Jackett in January. Hause made his senior debut in November 2012 and played 31 times for the League Two club, scoring twice. His arrival comes on the day Leigh Griffiths, Kevin Doyle, Wayne Hennessey and Bjorn Sigurdarson left Wolves. Strike trio Griffiths, Doyle and Sigurdarson joined Celtic, QPR and Molde respectively, while goalkeeper Hennessey signed a permanent deal with Crystal Palace.
Transfer Deadline Day: Wolves striker Griffiths joins Celtic
Leigh Griffiths has completed his transfer from Wolves to Celtic, signing a four-year contract after a fee was agreed between the clubs. The 23-year-old Scotland striker said: "The chance to come to Celtic is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you've got to grab it with both hands. "I've left a very good club down at Wolves, but I'm coming to the biggest club in Scotland. "The gaffer knows what I can do. Hopefully I can add goals." Griffiths has been capped four times by Scotland and scored 39 goals over the previous two seasons on loan at Hibernian. "I'll still be a Hibee as long as I live, but to play for Celtic is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you can't turn down” Leigh Griffiths Celtic striker But he believes joining Neil Lennon's side is the chance "to win things, play in the Champions League, hopefully, and get better as a player". "I've only played a handful of games for Scotland and I don't think I've done myself justice so far," said Griffiths, acknowledging that some Celtic fans have questioned his credentials on social media site Twitter. "But there is no bigger place to play than the Champions League and hopefully in six months' time I'll be doing that. "It's up to me to show the fans what I can do. I've not got off to the best of starts with some Celtic fans, but hopefully I can win them over." Griffiths signed a new deal at Molineux in the summer and has scored 13 goals in 32 appearances this term. However, Wolves this week signed Leon Clarke from Coventry City, having already secured Nouha Dicko from Wigan Athletic to bolster their attacking options, and Griffiths was relieved to complete his own transfer. "I'm delighted it's finally done," he said. "I think it was the middle of December that I first heard there was interest. "The first time I spoke to Neil was this morning at the training ground. He was very easy to talk to. "He told me what he wanted from me and I told him what I would bring to the team." Edinburgh-born Griffiths' love of his own local club is well documented and he said: "If it wasn't Hibs I was to come to, it would only be Celtic. "I'll still be a Hibee as long as I live and it will be good to go back there to play against them, but to play for Celtic is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you can't turn down." Before completing the deal for Griffiths, Celtic this week failed in a bid for a player currently plying his trade in Turkey, but the player and his current club could not reach the necessary agreement to allow the transfer to proceed. Lennon told BBC Radio 5live: "Strikers are at a premium and in today's climate it is really difficult for us to compete with Premier League money. "We tried to get a player in from Turkey. He had a £3m clause in his contract. We agreed that, but we couldn't get the deal done at the other end. It just became very complicated." Lennon was sure that Griffiths would make his mark with the Scottish champions. "He had a brilliant season last year with Hibs," he said. "He scored 29 goals. I think he is the leading goalscorer at Wolves. "We've been looking for a penalty box player and Leigh fits the bill. "We think he is value for money and at 23 we think he'll get better. "He knows the environment here in Scotland as well. It's up to me to develop him into a more rounded striker." Griffiths' switch to Celtic Park will earn Dundee around £150,000 because of a sell-on clause in the deal that took the striker to Molineux from the Scottish Championship outfit for that amount in January 2011.
Transfer Deadline Day: Crystal Palace sign five players
Crystal Palace have signed Blackpool winger Tom Ince, Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley, Blackburn defender Scott Dann, Southampton midfielder Jason Puncheon and Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey.
Wales international Hennessey, 27, moves for £3m and has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. Ledley and Puncheon, both 27, and 26-year-old Dann join the Premier League strugglers for undisclosed fees. David Pleat Football analyst on BBC Radio 5 live Crystal Palace's window has been interesting. The surprising thing to me is £3m on goalkeeper Hennessey. I think Julian Speroni has done really well over a number of seasons. Tony Pulis is bolstering his squad while looking to the summer when he may ship a few players out. Hennessey spent the first half of the season on loan at Yeovil after recovering from a knee injury suffered in April 2012. He has not played for Wolves since refusing to turn out against Gillingham in early January, for which he later apologised.
Transfer Deadline Day: QPR sign Doyle, Maiga and Keane
QPR have signed strikers Kevin Doyle of Wolves, West Ham's Modibo Maiga and Manchester United's Will Keane on loan until the end of the season. Republic of Ireland front man Doyle, 30, cost Wolves £6.5m in 2009 and has three goals in 24 games this term. They take QPR's tally of signings on deadline day to five, following the arrivals of defender Aaron Hughes and striker Guilherme Dellatorre at Loftus Road.
