Thursday 13th August Capital One Cup 2 Northampton Town v Wolves live on Sky 7:45pm ko
3 maiden goals for Wolves - Danny Batth started it off and Frank Nouble put us back in the lead, although both were a trifle lucky. Nothing lucky about Bacary Sako's debut goal though - a screamer just like his you-tube video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi5xbS-StKc The prize is a chorus of the Liquidator at the Bridge. The Beeb said Mike Whalley BBC Sport
A debut goal from French midfielder Bakary Sako earned Wolves a Capital One Cup third-round trip to Chelsea. The 24-year-old, who joined the club from St Etienne on Wednesday, fired in from 20 yards in stoppage time. Central defender Danny Batth had scrambled in a 16th-minute goal for the visitors, but boyhood Wolves fan Clive Platt equalised. Frank Nouble restored Wolves' lead in first-half injury time with another scruffy goal, before Sako struck. Wolves have been inconsistent in the Championship this season, collecting four points from three games, but were largely in control against their League Two opponents. After a lively start by the home side, Batth bundled in his first goal for Wolves from Razak Boukari's corner. Northampton had knocked out last season's finalists Cardiff in the first round, but rarely threatened the Wolves goal until they equalised five minutes before half-time. Veteran striker Platt, 34, scored it by climbing above Batth to head in Chris Hackett's right-wing cross. Wolves regained the lead in first-half stoppage time when Anthony Forde headed back a Boukari cross and Nouble saw the ball bounce up off his chest and creep over the line for his first Wolves goal.
Boukari, who had an impressive debut on the right wing after joining from Rennes on Monday, saw a shot blocked by Kelvin Langmead early in the second half after keeper Dean Snedker spilled a cross. The 17-year-old keeper, making only his second senior appearance, then dived at the feet of Wolves midfielder David Davis, who had been put through by Boukari. Sako replaced the Togo international midway through the second half, and thumped in a third goal late on.

TEAM NEWS
Goalkeeper Dean Snedker, 17, will make just his second senior appearance for Northampton Town. He deputises for Lee Nicholls, who is not permitted to play in the competition under the terms of his loan from Wigan Athletic. Wolves captain Karl Henry is struggling with the hamstring injury that kept him out of the draw with Derby. Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara is now likely to be out until November with a hernia problem. VIEWS FROM THE TRAINING GROUND
Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton: Play media
"The big thing for us is that we don't focus too much on our opposition otherwise we're going to get overawed. "We're not playing Manchester United - we're playing a team that is a top Championship team. "Our individual performances have to be at eights and nines [out of 10] if we're going to get anything out of this game. "It seems to be we're quite good under lights, we're all looking forward to it because it's a chance to test ourselves against a team
from two leagues higher." MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head Wolves won 4-0 at Northampton in the League Cup second round last season, their only previous meeting in this competition. The clubs have met eight times overall: Wolves winning five of those matches, and Northampton two. Northampton The 1964/65 and 1966/67 quarter-finalists achieved their best performance in 46 years by reaching the fourth round in the 2010/11 League Cup. Now they are looking for a place in the third round for the third time in five seasons. They have accounted for Bolton, Reading, Liverpool and Ipswich in this competition since 2008, and have already knocked out last season's beaten finalists Cardiff in this season's first round. Wolves Won the League Cup in 1974 and 1980. Have qualified for the last 16 in each of the last two seasons. Last had their interest in the competition ended by a League Two club in 2008, when Rotherham won their second round tie on penalties. Since then, the Black Country club have been knocked out by Manchester United twice and Manchester City once.Should they lose this tie, it will be their 50th defeat in a League Cup match.
Saturday 25th August 3pm ko Wolves 1 (Doyle 37) Derby County (Robinson 94)
At this match we paid London Wolves respects to to m ember Jim Heath who died just before the Aldershot cup tie. (see 20:20 vision page here) and at half time member James Perkins presented Wayne Hennessey with his player of the year trophy for 2011-12. See POTS page. Wayne commented on how well Carl was playing, and he certainly stopped this being a rout. Several Wolves chances in the first half didn't happen - although Ståle seems to have a liking for the team scoring around the 36th minute - this time Doyler. Peszko was again impressive, Johnson and Berra occasionally and Zubes made one great clearance. However the Derby left side were able to run at will at us, and in spite of alerting us to the danger several times, were able to do it again to equalise deep into stoppage time. The news that we've signed a decent half back is most welcome, but, with Karl Henry injured, when Tongo Doumbia went off for attention to a head wound we looked totally abject - with Captain Ward and even RJ screaming at the bench to get him back on. At this rate many more bottles of water are going to be decapitated by Ståle's swinging boot.
Theo Robinson struck deep into injury time to rescue a deserved point for Derby against Wolves. Robinson was reprimanded by County for tweeting about being dropped before the Rams' 2-0 defeat by Bolton on Tuesday. But he redeemed himself with a well-taken goal to deny the hosts their second victory of the season.
Kevin Doyle opened the scoring from close range, converting David Edwards's first-half cross. Robinson's late strike prevented back-to-back victories for new Wolves manager Stale Solbakken, who had to reshuffle his side following the departure of winger Matt Jarvis to West Ham. Edwards was brought into the side to replace him and he was central to the home side's opener, crossing for Slawomir Peszko, who cleverly let the ball run past him to allow Doyle to strike.
Derby responded by keeping the ball well, and could have been level when Richard Keogh and Ronald Zubar both missed good headed chances. And the Rams, still searching for a first win this season, found the goal their possession warranted when Robinson stepped off the bench to secure a share of the points.
Wolves manager Stale Solbakken: "We started well but we lost our rhythm. Carl [Ikeme] saved us a couple of times in the first-half. In the second there were not so many big chances but we looked more tired than Derby and many players struggled with cramp. When you concede a goal in the last minute it is a hard one to take but they probably deserved it. We will try to get in replacements for [Matt] Jarvis and [Steven] Fletcher in the next few days. We will work hard in the next few days to make sure we are more competitive."
Derby manager Nigel Clough: "We deserved the three points not just one. We created good chances and the other team have one shot and get one goal. It will turn for us as long as we keep doing the things we did today. That is what pleased us the most. We just kept playing and doing the right things until the 93rd, 94th minute." Tuesday 21st August 7.45pm ko Wolves 3 (Wardy, SEB, Dave Edwards) Barnsley 1 (Cywka)
At times Wolves looked a totally different team to those who had turned up last Saturday, or the one before, or for most of this year - two up front - Doyler shooting on sight - Jarvo marmalising the full backs - even having three players marking him - and putting in accurate crosses - Sylvan running with freedom - Karl Henry not the only one tackling - an imperious midfielder in Doumbia conteolling all the action - Kights well replaced with Peszko - a magnificent cross for Dave Edwards goal - the refs were waring shirts suspiciously like our new away shirts in awful teal. - and the South Bank full and rockin. (and mockin the North Bank - two tiers and "you still don't sing", "we forgot you were here" plus a chorus of "Solbakken Solbakken he hates the Albion" and Sol Sunshine Berra wasn't booed too much either, but turned his back on Cykwa's shot. Marlon Harewood got a nice round of applause when he went off, but not many seemed to recognise Barnsley's number 9, Craig Davies, who was one of the players who Mick McC used to keep the club going six years ago.
Stale Solbakk en enjoyed his first victory as Wolves boss as his side easily saw off Barnsley. Stephen Ward put Wolves ahead when he ran on to Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's pass to net with a low shot. Ebanks-Blake found space to make it 2-0 from Karl Henry's pass and Wolves were cruising when David Edwards met a Matt Jarvis cross to extend their lead. Barnsley replied late on when Kelvin Etuhu set up Tomasz Cywka but Wolves still ran out comfortable winners. WOLVES END WAIT FOR WIN AT HOME Wolves' last victory at Molinueux before they beat Barnsley was a 2-1 win over Sunderland on 4 December, when Steven Fletcher scored both their goals. the Beeb It was their first league win at Molineux in 2012 and their first success anywhere since they beat QPR in the Premier League on 4 February. The result was hardly ever in doubt once Ward had broken the deadlock, although Jacob Mellis did fire wide for the Tykes before Ebanks-Blake beat the offside trap to slot home Wolves' second of the night. Edwards got his reward for a clever run into the box to add a third goal which ensured Cywka's precise finish into the bottom corner was only a consolation. Saturday 16th August 12:45pm ko Leeds United 1 Becchio 17′ Wolves 0 HT 1-0 Luciano Becchio ensured new-look Leeds United started the season with a win as Wolves suffered a deflating return to the Championship at Elland Road. Argentine Becchio, 28, settled the game when he headed the only goal in the 17th minute following an inch-perfect cross by Ross McCormack. Wolves were fortunate not to suffer a heavier defeat against dominant Leeds. Debutant Rodolph Austin had an effort cleared off the line while McCormack also went close to scoring. Opening day gloom for Wolves - Having won on the opening day for the past two seasons, this was Wolves' first away defeat on the first day since they lost 2-1 at Stoke on 8 August 2004.
Wolves were relegated from the Premier League after winning just five games last season, and only one of their last 24. And new manager Stale Solbakken faces a huge task to get them back there if the Black Country club's first match in the second tier for more than three years is anything to go by. Wolves were tepid in the first half and although they improved after half-time, they lacked the cutting edge to hurt an impressive Leeds side. After a busy summer in the transfer market, the hosts' starting XI featured eight players making their league debuts for the club, but Neil Warnock's side played as though they had been together for more than just a few weeks. Wolves needed to show they had the appetite for a fight but their defensive failings from last season resurfaced as early as the 17th minute. Austin had already seen an effort hacked off the line while McCormack, who signed a new three-year contract on the eve of the season, had missed another chance by the time Becchio launched his fifth season at Elland Road by heading home from close range. Becchio stooped low to meet a cross from the outstanding McCormack following a long punt forward by keeper Paddy Kenny. With Sunderland target Steven Fletcher out with a damaged ankle, the visitors offered little in attacking threat as Leeds, playing against the backdrop of takeover talks, opened the campaign in determined fashion.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Doyle were starved of service as captain Lee Peltier and Jason Pearce marshalled the home defence. Indeed, the only negative for Warnock in the first half was the sight of Paul Green going off injured, his departure paving the way for El-Hadji Diouf to make a league debut for his 10th club. Wolves improved in the second half, substitute Slawomir Peszko cutting in from the left to meet the ball with a swinging left foot. But his effort cleared the bar before Matt Jarvis fired across the face of goal on a frustrating day for the visitors.
Leeds manager Neil Warnock: "They [my players] deserve a lot of credit. We have a few niggles around the place and when you looked at our players and theirs, we were half the size of them, so we've done well. "You have to do what we did today. The Championship is a different league to the top level. The players loved the atmosphere and playing in front of a big crowd. That was something I didn't think we had about us last year."
Wolves manager Stale Solbakken: "The only way you can change it [the mentality] is to win that first game and get that winning feeling. "You can say that you can work hard blah, blah, blah, but you have to win that first game. Today was a fair result, there were not many chances in the game. Leeds protected their penalty area well when they went in front. I have no complaints. "We are trying to find a winning formula. The team lost many games last season, maybe one win in 26 or 27. But now we have two home games and maybe we can get it then."

Saturday 11th August Capital One Cup 3:00pm ko Wolves 1 Aldershot 1 AET Wolves win 7-6 on penalties
A serious contrast between the two teams. An almost pre-season approach from Wolves compared unfavourably with stalwart defending and focused attacking - especially by the Shots centre forward Michael Rankine
A well taken goal though from Sylvan almost on the goal-line should have opened the door to a comfortable win but a stupid tackle from Karl Henry - which could easily have seen a sending off for a second yellow gave a free kick near the North Bank / BW - this led to a corner and Rankine was left unmarked to head back across Carl Ikeme - an unstoppable header. Who was marking the centre forward?
But Carl was to save the 14th penalty after 13 really well taken shots. When Ch Berra came on as a sub he was booed for wanting away, and then again every time he touched the ball.
Wolves needed a shoot-out to beat Aldershot in the League Cup first round in boss Stale Solbakken's first game. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave Wolves the lead after firing home on the turn after good work by Tongo Doumbia. Michael Rankine headed home Josh Payne's corner to bring the game to extra-time and Wolves' Anthony Forde hit the post in the 116th minute. In the penalty shoot-out Carl Ikeme saved Jordan Roberts's penalty after the first 13 kicks had been successful.
